Im currently playing 25nl on FT.
once in the lobby i try to select a table with the higher players/flop rather than avg pot. (1 is this a good way to start)

Once im at the table I like to give it 20-30 hands (as ive got HM running) to see how tight/loose/passive/aggressive the table is. Is this enough hands before looking for another table.

Do people think its better to be at a Tight table ie stats 16/18 - 18/12 etc
or the looser ones ie 24/20 30/25

Any other advice is welcome

I personally prefer playing at a table full of nits/nitty TAG's as i can really loosen up my range and normally pick up about 2 blinds an orbit (6 max). Plus you can normally put them on their range fairly easily, if they are calling a raise preflop chances are they have a pocket pair and are likely to miss so easy enough to pick up with a standard cbet.

That is a good way to start. In general when you are at the table the overall stats are not as important as your relative position to the player types most importantly the mark

Ideally you want the loose passive or maniac to your direct right and the tight players to your left. This is so that you can value bet the mark and have position on the player you are looking to play the most pots with. Having tight players to your left makes it easier to isolate the weak player.

As a bonus tight players on the left makes it easier to pick up blinds
