Starting table etiquette? Starting table etiquette?

Today a reg got angry at me when I wanted to start a table with him and sat to his right. Is it considered to be proper to sit to his left instead?

he got angry because you gave him position on you? then he is stupid. i would sit to his left and get position on HIM! if he is a nit then sitting to his right is great as you can steal loads from him. (when other people come)

I don't know what the standard etiquette is here but my guess is he is upset that he has no chance of getting immediate position on a fish?

Personally, I tend to sit directly across from them. At a 9 max table, I like to choose the seat 4 to their right. This way there are 3 seats between us to my left and 4 seats between us to our right, giving me better odds that the fish sits to my right

I dunno if that theory works in practice but it sounds good so I do it, and regs never seem to have a problem with me sitting across the table as its pretty neutral.

he got angry because you take up the space he wants the fish to sit. i'd say the standard thing to do is sit directly opposite, but i wouldn't worry about it too much

well I obviously sit to his right to not give him position on any fish that comes.. Probbably best to sit directly across gonna try that.

If he wants to change seats then he can change seats. That's where you wanted to sit...

Sitting to the right of someone means you have potential to have position on the fish. You should sit opposite when starting tables with regs.
