Is this standard satellite play? Is this standard satellite play?

Ive just played a satellite and finished on the bubble.
There were 5 seats to give away and we were down to 7 players.
I am average in chips. There is a very short stack, and there is a huge stack.
I get dealt QQ on the button. Short stack goes all in utg, he only has about double the blinds.
Huge stack is on BB.
folds to me and I thought about pushing, but decided to let the big stack in to check the hand down so i just called.
Anyway, the big stack moved all in and I called. He showed AT and took the pot with trip aces.
My first thoughts were, why the f**k would he do that.
However, on reflection, maybe I played it all wrong.
Should I have moved in before it got to big stack?
Should I have folded to big stacks all in?

I would've pushed before the BB got a chance to do anything. Possibly fold to the all-in depending on how many chips he was putting at risk/size of your stack compared to the blinds.

Please post the entire hand if you have it.
Even the distribution of chips among players not in the hand could have a bearing.
EDIT: I like the call with QQ but may fold to the big stacks push depending on stuff

I'd say push or fold before the big stack can put you to a tough decision. If he was smart, and your stack wasn't threatening to his, that was his real goal. Can't really know w/o the stack sizes, tho.

ok, blinds are 150/300. Short stack has 510, big stack 12k, I have 2900. Rest of the table has between 1k - 6k

Actually, the most important stack sizes are the ones you didn't specify. THOSE are the people on the bubble with you, as big stack is in (barring a meltdown), and shortie needs a couple double-ups to make it. If the next lowest stack is 1k, I fold.

If the big stack has been frisky like this previously I don't mind folding preflop. But no way do I shove pre or call a shove pre without being fairly sure the BB will get out of the way or play cooperatively. And most of the time this is not the case. He can call your shove with ATC and a lot will. He's still fine if he loses.

i cant believe there r ppl sayin fold in this situation of a TOURNAMENT!!! u have to push here to protect ur hand from the BB. he may call anyway with A high, but u have to give him the chance to get out of the way. with QQ u do not want multiple players and so need to isolate this all in player no matterwhat his stack size is, to protect ur hand.

in this short stack type of tourney u cant call... ever!!! RAISE!!! especially with monsters like QQ.

ur fatal error here - "I wanted to let the BB in to knock him out"- u must have heard the point that big PF hands play better against fewer opponents?- u have QQ so protect it!!! worry about yoursel before any1 else!!!

Reread the OP. Satellite, not standard tourney.

If the top 5 are paid, one person is all-in (with 7 remaining). If you just flatted the all-in. Fold to the raise for sure. If theres people with 1k chips left in the tournament on the bubble, they will have to be pushing soon.
