I was just posting this to get people's opinions on how ok it is to skip some of the limits on you way up the poker ladder.

I have been playing poker online for maybe 2 years but have't really put in that much effort into grinding or moving up. I did though manage to move up from nl 2 to nl10 and almost nl25 fairly quickly with proper br management. I still have my roll but haven't played at all for a few months.

I am now going to be starting to play some more and put some real effort into the game. And I was wondering what people think is the best path to actually start making meaningful money playing poker. I could probably move up the stakes but I am thinking of possibly going through the path of forking out some money from my pocket to get a decent roll, join a training site, possibly even hire a coach and start playing somewhere around nl100 and just learn fast by playing against players who are better than at the micros and thouroughly looking at and reviewing my own play.

No way in hell I would start at NL100 iunless I had a few stacks to burn,

Coaching isn't cheap, and if you get coaching at NL100 compared to a NL25 coach your gonna be paying a lot more for basically a different person finding the same leaks that your gonna find @ nl25 that you could fix b4 moving up.

Stay at 25nl to fix your leaks. Don't jump straight into 100nl or you will lose a lot of money imo. If you think you're 'ready' for something bigger and better tahn 25nl then i'd mix in some 50nl tables but stay away from 100nl for a while!

Don't skip 50NL I don't mind skipping 5nl or 10nl but don't go from 25nl to 100nl. You will be surprised at how much more aggressive it get's. Most of them have the BR to support the Bad beat and suck outs. Unless of course you have the BR/Skill and Heart to pay for your lessons at the table.

if you are beating a level at a decent rate it shouldn't take you long to make 20 bis for the next level.

yeah, right, because moving up to nl100 with 2k roll is a good idea

absolutely fine for shot taking.

also, if you have 20 bis for your current level and make 20 for the next level then you have 30bis for the next level.

30bis is a min imho. Not so much variance reasoning as psychological one. But maybe thats just me, I play A LOT better with big bankroll.

op is thinking about skipping levels altogether, they are clearly not a br nit and want to move up as fast as possible. 20 bis is fine for shot taking.

Not necessarily about being a BR nit or maniac. More about your backup plan. I say if you have other sources of income that could help replenish your BR in case you go bust, then skipping levels altogether isn't bad, as long as you can redepo and get yourself back in action within reasonable time so as to not discourage you.

But I agree with the part about spending time at at least 25NL and finding and fixing your leaks there. I don't know it personally, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that 4betting is the new 3bet at higher levels, etc etc.
