How does SharkScope calculate your ability? I have an acct where I am 81 ability on one site and another where I am 50 ability. The account where I am 50 I have only played 30 or so tournaments many of which have been freerolls. Do freerolls count towards your ability ranking?

From their website: "The Ability rating is a rating that goes up to 100 and shows a player's ability based on an assessment of all the other statistics we have compiled for that player. It allows you to easily compare players who play significantly different stake levels and tournament types - for example a player who loses a small amount at high stakes games is likely a better player than a player that wins money at very low stakes games - and so may well have a higher Ability rating."

As far as I know, freerolls aren't covered. I have a friend who the TLB freeroll on FTP and it doesn't show up on his sharkscope.

Is 50 the default rating? I'm a winning player, and I only play like garbage when I enter freerolls and shove every hand.

as an aside, why does your ability number on sharkscope matter at all? honestly it doesn't matter. sure it's kinda nice to have good stats on opr/sharkscope but i guarantee you the guys with high ability numbers or w/e are more focused on being profitable and making the most money possible. i think most good players leave their ego out of it and in the end are just trying to make money. i suppose it drives/motivates some players to be the number one ranked player but i dont think thats typical for most "grinders".

I don't use it for bragging rights, I'm just curious if donking freerolls downplays my ability rating. I'd honestly rather have a lower rating for late stages of a tournament when good players are looking people up. Bad players get less credit for a resteal.

I would expect good players to be making decisions based on the stats in their HUDs—and what they've noticed you doing—rather than relying on a rating from Sharkscope or some other rating service.

I'm asking out of shear curiosity about ability rating, not what is optimal for players reading you or for debating how important SharkScope stats are....

That's fine.

I was responding to this, which seems to suggest otherwise:

But my response, I think, does apply to your question.

There may be players who look at Sharkscope ability ratings to get a read on you. I'm not convinced they are the good ones, however.

Or, perhaps you weren't speaking to me?

Ignore it.

Seriously, ignore it. That number is put there to help fish feel better about losing money. The lowest score possible is 50 and It's completely meaningless.

I have no idea how it is calculated, my ROI is higher on one site yet a lower rating;

allinwlk 278 $5 $5 11% $1,318 - 71 FullTilt x
allinwlk 224 $1 $3 18% $133 - 65 PokerStars x

Maybe not specifically ability, but all sharkscope stats. On stars all you can see is ability for people who haven't opted in.

I was speaking to everyone who responded by the way.

I'm inclined to agree with Cry Me A River, ability seems pretty useless and fairly random.

+1

it's a nice tool to see what kind of a streak someone is on, but ignore the subjective stats. It had me as a fish when my ROI was something like 48% playing 90 man MTTS, just beacuse i hadn't cashed for 10 tournys.
