You sure it's not that guy asking if he can play 90% of hands and win? Looks like he can!

edit - I had been wondering why I had been doing so bad winning my HU parts of my hypers as it was killing my win rate, I put a lot of it down to the fact that I sneak into the money quite a lot due to people making huge errors on the bubble, but then I looked at a nash chart (spot the error with this and win +1 pokerz) just to make sure my shoving wasn't miles off and it was

It's a good job people are too tight in these things otherwise I'd be crying.

He can, you know he can.
At least over a small sample I see it every day.
Pokertableratings shows me the true story though!

On the turn I'm never folding out better and most hands that I beat that would call a bet will bet when checked to to protect, so check/calling seemed like the best option there. On the river I'm fairly confident he will fire another bullet with all his aces and flushes and a bunch of other random stuff, but 2x the pot??? Is he ever valuebetting worse like this? If not, is he bluffing often enough?
09-02-2013 , 07:02 PM
H2, x/c turn is not good, it's unlikely most Ax will bet two streets, but they'll generally call two streets. Villain can't have many FD combos, and you can size it appropriately. As played, call the river, a 5NL unk can be doing this with Ax or a flush.

Hey all, looking for some help with some help with a couple of other situations I found myself in today. Sorry if my hand spamming is excessive. If so, please tell me!

First, a really strange situation on a great table.

PokerStars - $0.25 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

MP: $28.54 (VPIP: 18.87, PFR: 16.98, 3Bet Preflop: 5.26, Hands: 53)

UTG+2: $10.00 (VPIP: 13.48, PFR: 11.24, 3Bet Preflop: 8.33, Hands: 89)

SB posts SB $0.10, BB posts BB $0.25

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.35) Hero has Q Q

Hero raises to $0.75, fold, fold, fold, MP+1 calls $0.75, fold, BTN calls $0.75, SB calls $0.65, BB calls $0.50

Flop: ($3.75, 5 players) 9 5 2
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $3.00, MP+1 calls $3.00, BTN calls $3.00, SB calls $3.00, fold

Turn: ($15.75, 4 players) T
SB bets $0.75, Hero ???

OK, so as you see the table is super-juicy. In all honesty, I was really, really confused by how this hand went.

A couple of hands previous to this, while still 200BB deep vs. SB, I folded KK unimproved on a 6T75 board with 2 suited. Play was pretty normal until the turn when the SB donked $30 all-in into the turn 3 way. He was doing all sorts of other random stuff like betting three streets with a draw after being raised both flop and turn (and the draw busted on the river), and donking any time he got any piece of the board. His donk stat ended up >80% over the session.

Anyway ...

- So the whole time I was keeping in mind that I was only going to go really far with this hand if I made a monster.
- The table played like this almost the entire time I was there (until the fish went busto and were replaced with regs on the waitlist) ...

Would anyone mind taking a shot at this hand? I feel like my flop bet might have been a mistake given I knew these things about the table (calling stations) when I made the bet. What would you do on the flop? How do you deal with this turn bet? Is this just a really basic situation that I've never found myself in before?

Second hand is a much more basic situation. Just trying to make my strategy more dynamic. I ALWAYS 3Bet with AA, in fact, the only way I change it up is limping UTG or UTG+1 with them every now and then on really aggressive tables.

In this small sample (like, nearly nonexistent) villain has a Fold to 3bet After Raising % of 100 (2/2). OK, so here are the questions:

1. Would it have been appropriate to call this bet, and hope for an eventual 3bet?
2. If no, assuming a larger sample, again with a high F3B%, does the answer to #1 change?

-4BI session, the first of the month.

Hands:

1) Posted this one in uNL. I don't think he's ever checking Jx on this river, and based on his cbet sizing and the fact that BTN is in the pot, his flop range is probably Qx+. I was tempted to fold the turn as a result but I didn't really want to fold a hand when I only had 6 better combos in my range (I'd fold KQ though), especially given his smaller sizing. On the river I think I have basically no SDV against his range (I can only hope to chop), and it's one of the only bluffs I can have here. The problem is I rep thin with any sizing I choose to bluff with. The sizing I chose is intended to rep JJ targeting sets, KQ and maybe bad AA calls, but I could bet smaller repping a set or OB it (effective stacks are $18) repping AJ, but any one of those sizes reps 8 combos at most.

2) I think I have to jam this river though it becomes fairly thin because I think this guy's capable of folding 22 here, and doesn't necessarily cbet JJ, but as he has some combos of JJ, all 55, sometimes might call 22 and sometimes might make an awful call with AQ/AJ, and I'm only beaten by AA, it seems a sure thing.

4) Misplayed every street here. Pre probably isn't too bad (the caller was folding to 92% of 3bets despite being a fish), but I can have better hands in my range for this, but I should xb the flop, restricting my bluffs to AK with a heart, and I think the turn's probably too thin to bluff considering he never folds QhQ or JhJ.

TDA, I'll take a shot. First, again, thanks for the pooh-bah post. I've enjoyed what I've read so far and have begun trying to put it to use.

H1 I think is pretty WP, but please consider the source . A couple of questions if you don't mind: first, what do you think of the change in his bet sizing from flop to turn? Does that tell you that he didn't like the 9 (or that he wants you to think so)? If so, I agree, it's pretty solidly either at a set or Qx. I assume that you fold to a river bet of any standard size? Is there a bet size that you call?

H2 Do you eliminate 22 from his UTG raising range on a FR table? I agree with your thoughts on this hand as those hands are the only viable ones I see in his range (haven't clicked the spoiler button yet ...). I think the hand is WP and I'd have played it the same way. On second thought, that might mean it is not WP ...

H3 do you call only due to the min-raise? Or would you call any standard open? Interesting to throw the OB in there. Did you have notes on the villain that suggest he'd call, or is it a play that looks weak enough that it'll often induce a call from a reg? Interesting way to play the hand.

H4 I think is played too aggressively on all streets but again consider the source. Definitely understand trying to take advantage of the Fold 3bet%, though I think it's a bit thin with it being an UTG raise. With the flop call I think it's pretty clearly time to shut it down.

H5 with SPR of 2, what do you do with a river raise here? I agree you have to bet for value in this situation, because I think he has basically every combo of Ax here so you are ahead of a lot of it, and I'd not imagine he's taking this line with much else. I think it's pretty WP.

H6 I don't mind the PF call at all, I'd do something like that depending on stacks. I agree that his river call is not great at all, because I think you have a lot in your range that has him beat at that point. Is he even thinking of that at this point? I generally assume that the players at Zoom are of higher calibre than those at the reg tables but this was a really weird play by him.

H7 without looking at the spoiler, I think that you're looking at KK, 2 pair, and sets here given the line and lack of information on CO. I think you have to lean more toward the 2pair and sets end of the range given he was willing to get it in multiway at that point though I suppose SB doesn't really count. I don't think folding is a bad play in this situation at all. In fact, I think it's almost certainly the correct play and I hope I'd go for it too.

I hope at least something in there was helpful as I know I'm a beginner and make a lot of goofy moves myself.

@TDA, in H2 I think we could raise turn and jam river. I think you could do this with a lot of semi bluffs that picked up equity, so he can still call down the aces.

I feel he'll have a wider calling range vs a raise OTT vs OTR so we can get more value.

Always stacking off here I'm guessing? I expect to run into flushes/overpairs with a diamond, but it's pretty standard yeah?

How else would you want to play it? Of course you stack of here, you still have good equity against a made flush.

What overpairs would he play like this? I would expect a bigger raise after the limper from QQ+. TT with a diamond would not shove here very often. That leaves mostly made flushes, sets and 78s. We still get the correct odds to call though, assuming there is even one overpair combo in his range. But expect to be behind most of the time.

Not sure if this was directed at me, but even it if wasn't it actually got me thinking that my post was kind of pointless.

Of course it was directed at you, those hands are clearly fine. And if that's the worst you've ever run you're going to struggle at 10NL.

      @TDA
H1: WRT to the sizing OTR i'd go slightly smaller. It looks more like value and you get better odds on your bluff. id go around $8.5
H2: happy jamming OTR. Don't forget he could have KTs(I know he is tight but wouldn't completely discount it)
h4: yeah i'd agree not the best hand in your range to 3bet with.
h5: meh don't think I can fold there since Co isn't full stacked.

I'd prefer not to do this with top set since we have most of the combos of top pair. Lower sets i'd agree.

about AA I basically wouldn't ever limp unless you have a really good reason to do so because A: your letting people see cheap flops a decent percentage of the time and B: its one extra thing to balance and C: your weakening your opening range if you limp a percentage of the time with AA/KK

I probably would have called pre. Think how tight your value 3bet range is going to be here. Its basically only AA/KK(it is nitring after all ) which is going to be clear even to some of the worst opponents. That and his FT3bet stat makes flatting a better option. Its good that your thinking outside the "standard plays".

If you are going to 3bet pre MP vs UTG i'd make it larger. Your going to be more value orientated so i'd go slightly larger than the standard 3x. You should tailor your betsize to your range strenght. That's why on the button its good to go small and UTG go large. Same can be applied to 3betting.
