Hey guys,

I used to play a lot of poker about 10 years ago when everyone was grinding supernovas and supernovas elite on Stars. Took a long break, but now I feel like coming back.

I used to play NL200, now looking to start at the bottom and climb up.

Few questions:
1. Is it worth playing on stars anymore? Seems like they destroyed their rakeback system and now paying close to nothing.
2. I registered at GG Poker - what's your opinion on this room?
3. My game is terrible now - what are the sites/resources worth using to improve these days?
4. I see All-in or Fold and Short Deck poker available - are they worth getting into? All-in or fold would be probably close to solved - any resources on this?

If you feel like sharing anything else about current state of online poker I would love to read it.

Thanks!

1) If you get the exclusive poker challenges (eff 40% rb) then maybe, if not, probably not. There are plenty of softer rooms around, and at lower stakes you probably won't have problems finding games elsewhere.

2) High rake, need to run numbers and look into their rb system.

3) RIO, Upswing both reasonable options. Everyone decent is on the solver grind these days. Maybe some books like Play Optimal Poker or Modern Poker Theory. The game is very different than it was 10 years ago.

4) AoF not worth. Short deck maybe, not sure about the online ecosystem for short deck but live short deck has also become more of a thing lately and the game is less advanced than NLHE (though public short deck solvers are a thing now). PLO also an option.

At the end of the day I'd recommend picking a game/format that you find the most fun, because you'll need to put a lot of hours in to make any money. Most formats are still beatable with work, so you should pick something you enjoy and won't mind sinking time and effort into.

I agree with Duncelanas.

Short Deck/6+ Hold'em is similar to PLO in a sense. What I mean by that is: The deck only ranges between 6-A, so a pair between 6-9 more-often-than-not isn't a good holding. Like with PLO, 1 pair is "basically" junk (You're hardly ever winning with anything less than trips or a flush) , same sort of concept I would say applies here. 66,77,88,99 not too bad to start, but if you're holding K6 in the BB and it's folded around to you to see a flop and you flop a 6, it's usually junk.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in, hope that helps! (even if it's just a little bit)

You can climb up in either sites if you work hard enough. It's harder than before though. I will confirm PLO is much easier. I never did that well NL zoom even in the past, but now find PLO zoom of same stakes easy in comparison.
