I'm playing low stakes NL. I continually forget to put my opponents on ranges. So I've created this list of what hands are being played at SSNL, from weakest to strongest (roughly in order.) Donks who play any picture card and up.

Am I missing something? Is there a better method? Is there a range chart somewhere on this site or another? I have been keeping this list on my computer, and based on betting patterns and player stats trying to determine range.

• Picture Card + rag

• Ace + rag

• Any Suited
T3x

• Ax

• Kx, Qx

• Connectors Off, 1Gap, 2 Gap
67o, 89o, 9to……. 68o, 86o……74o, 85o…..

• Suited Connectors, and 1gap SC, 2 gap SC

although that may be helpful for the time being, ranges are usually displayed more like this

these are from pokerstove btw, an equity calculator you can download

top 1% QQ+
top 5% 88+,AJs+,KQs,AKo
top 10% 77+,A9s+,KTs+,QTs+,AJo+,KQo
top 25% 66+,A2s+,K6s+,Q8s+,J8s+,T8s+,A7o+

when putting an opponent on a "range" you have to take into account a huge number of factors. his position at the table, his stack size, his aggression level, his looseness or tightness, his betting pattern. it is far more of an art than a science, so although trying to categorise ranges might help you gain a basic understanding, it wont really help you put someone on a range.

for example:

a tight player raises utg. his range is probably quite narrow, maybe: 99+ AQo+
whereas a loose maniac raising on the button could be playing 60% of hands or more:
22+,A2s+,K2s+,Q2s+,J2s+,T3s+,95s+,85s+,75s+,64s+,5 4s,A2o+,K2o+,Q5o+,J7o+,T7o+,97o+,87o

you get the idea...

as the hand progresses you must continually reasses whether he would do certain things with different parts of his range, eventually narrowing it down to as small a group of hands as possible. once you have done this, you can make your play based on what you estimate his range to be.

like i said, its more of an art than a science, it really only comes with experience

hope this helps

Thanks dw for the info.

Where on pokerstove do you find this breakdown?
How do define all the hands, for example where does JTs exist on this list?

if you type in 1% in to the players hand box it will come up with QQ+, if you type in 25% it will come up with 66+,A2s+,K6s+,Q8s+,J8s+,T8s+,A7o+ etc...

i spose i didnt really explain it properly. if i say im raising with TT+ that means im raising with TT, QQ, KK, AA.

JTs would come under J8s+ because this means J8s, J9s, JTs, JQs, JKs, JAs

having said all this, dont worry about categorising ranges just yet. this stuff is only essential to know for quite complicated concepts like ICM(independent chip modelling)

ICM modeling is only for post game analysis anyway unless you're a maths genius.

Also, the top 25% as mentioned on pokerstove contains 66+, and also some more mediorcre hands such as j8s as stated above, but you may find that in reality a player is playing 25% of his hands but his range is different (for example he may be playing lower pockets instead of j8s therefore maintaining the %).

In order to get an accurate idea of an opponents range you need to watch a reasonable amount of their play, and their style, plus keep in mind their stack to pot ratio - it should give you an idea of whether or not they are playing hands in which their true value lies in the implied value (such as the lower pockets).
