I dont know other peoples thoughts on table selection but for me it is the number one way you can give yourself an edge at poker. it takes no time and makes you money. why wouldnt you do it? only fish sit down at the first free table and start playing, right? more advanced players sort the lobby by vpip and then pick out the loosest tables to sit in on. i like to go to tables with vpip 30% or higher. this is the best way. this sorting method is enhanced if you have colour coded a lot of players at your limit because you can see from the lobby if there are any fish at the tables. more experienced players still will sit in based on these criteria and will leave when the maniac/fish goes bust which is a smart move. Heres one last thing you can do to make your table selection stay good. Once you have been sat down for a while, flick back to the lobby, still sorted by VPIP, and check the tables you are currently on. What is there VPIP now? see how they are all like 12%? worse? time to move on!

Be nice to yourself, pick good tables and keep on top of conditions. Just because the table was good when you joined, doesnt mean it isnt now and more importantly, there might be better tables to sit at.

this is why it's massively +ev to start tables.
fish don't table select; they just want to sit down and play.

the problem i find with looking for a good table (deep stacks, high VPIP etc) is that the wait list is usually huge. i'd rather start a table and let the fish come to me, which they always do. as long as you play a decent HU and short handed game you'll be fine.
i agree though once the table fills up (usually full of regs) and the VPIP drops, it's time to move on.

no question, just my thoughts on table selection which I think is overlooked by a lot of beginners. Did not know *that* CotW though, spot on. If I could delete my posts, I would
