Hi this is probably a dumb question but im bad at math. I am completing split suits math workbook and there is a section on facing re-raises I'm confused why the % of the pot is giving different pot odds and how I would calculate that quickly while playing? would I just ignore percentage and just calculate pot odds? thanks

For a hero call decision:
Pot odds = Reward/Risk = (Pot after villain last bet/(Amount you have to call)

Consider the middle example:

Starting Pot = 400: Your Bet = 225

Last Bet (villain raise-to) = 900

Amount hero has to call = 900 – 225 = 675

Pot After Last Villain Bet = 400 + 225 + 900 = 1525

Pot Odds = 1525/675 = 2.34 to1

Required Equity = 1/(Pot Odds + 1) = 1/3.24 =30.7%

In general,

Required Equity = Your last investment / Final pot after all bets/calls

which translate to your “fair share” of the pot

= 675/(1525 + 675) = 30.7%

This is a typical area where Players can struggle, so to speak. Are you an 'Odds' guy or a 'Percentage' guy? Only you know what works better in your head.

I like using percentages since equity is typically in the same form.

If you have to put in 33% of the resultant pot then you need 'more than' 33% equity in order for it to be correct to call (pending any implied odds). In this exact mathematic example I don't really care that the V bet 100% of the pot. I just know that I'm putting in 33% of the resultant pot.

From a theoretical mindset, knowing what percentage of the pot a V bet can be important since it generally corresponds to their range and also what range they want you to continue with .. or want to charge you to continue with.

You need to memorize some of the basic spots .. flush draw, OESD, combo, set, 2 pair and the equity they typically have going to Turn and River WHEN THEY MIGHT BE BEHIND. If you want to calculate Pod Odds, then memorize the odds you need for those spots. If you want to work with percentages, then memorize the equity needed for those spots. They are the same thing expressed in different formats.

Lots of Players can go back and forth .. and you will get there .. but at the start I think it's best to try and go the route of just odds or just percentages until it becomes automatic.

Remember that your opponent can make no bet large enough to take you off a range where you think you are ahead as you are always putting in 'at least' 50% of the pot if there's no dead money in the middle.

Thanks for the replies I can work out the pot odds and equity required that's all fine, it was just the percentage of pot that was really throwing me off and confusing me
