Well, if your'e not prelop it would depend on what the flop is and what you have, wouldnt it.

Prelop it would depend on what you think the opp has.

i mean is there no number, that u shudnt fold at when ur playing a hand

say pre u 4bet AK to 51% of ur stack, can u still fold

post u play to the river and have say 30% off your stack left, can u evr fold?

First one, with ak, I would say you can never fold.

Second, it depends on what you have, if you have 3 high you can safely fold

Hi wIzarrdd90,

I would first like to say the true answer isn't as clear cut as you would like it to be. Being pot commited in one spot versus a loose-aggressive re-raise would probably be different than being re-raised by the tightest player at the table. Furthermore, you tend to be more easily pot commited in a tournament than cash (with an ever increasing blind structure)

Generally speaking, I would say betting/raising 40% of your stack makes you ~ committed.

My rationale is, assuming a 1000 stack, 40% would be 400, assuming reshoves, you have about 600 behind to win 1000~ therefore the odds you're getting are ~600:1400 --> 1:2.33 --> 30%~ equity

23o vs AKo has about 34%~ equity (source: Pokerstove).

The same goes with a call from your opponent, the pot will be 800~ and you will have 600 behind for a standard CBET.

I'm sure there is a more optimal number to factor in domination, and the standard range of hands an opponent might have in this spot, but I think this hard and fast rule is decent.

Hope that helps,

The whole idea of being pot commited, is when you should bet more than your standard, to reduce our opponents implied odds, and increase our fold equity in a situation of semi-desperation where we take a stand. I would recommend that when you 4bet, dont put yourself in an awkward spot leaving 50% of your stack behind, 4bet bigger to put your entire stack in.

pretty complex but yeah thanks people

i know what you mean lyk if some guys range is wide in a certain spot i make money by playing so im pot committed, lyk i beat 3 of 5 of there stackin hands

but even if i play 60% of my stack vs a nit i can still fold, but leaving 20% behind is futile. i shud prbly avoid these weird stack sizes and make a decision on an other street i think

thnx
