I will be playing poker infrequently since I work 40 hours a week full time and study 25 hours a week full time. I will play 1 live MTT once a week its a $50 daily and maybe play 2 days a week online. Online I will one table and live I will one table.

Next year I hope to play a $1500 donkfest with 2000+ players to bink 500k plus. its a live mtt. I can save the buyin, plane ticket and other costs from my Job.

What should I do to prepare for this? If I play $22 online mtts and play maybe 2-5 a week plus one live mtt.

thats 300 mtts. in a year. sick volume. I will put in 4 hours of poker study a week. Im studying Psychology at Uni.

Assuming you can afford the buy in, good luck. You’re gonna need it no matter what else you do. Winning a 2000+ player MTT requires quite a bit of luck no matter how good you are. Evan a top level pro probably would have a 1% or less chance of winning such an event. Considering that an average player has a 0.05% chance (by definition) that is much less surprising than it might seem.

If the caliber of the field is low (you referred to it as a donkament) then focus your study on good preflop play and learn your push/fold charts for when you are short stacked. Play solid poker and use solid tourney strategy. Play tight early on and aggressively steal blinds as the blinds go up. Most bad players do the opposite, splashing around early and tightening up as the blinds increase. Play as many MTTs as you can to practice these things.

If the caliber of the field is higher than you think, well refer back to the first paragraph — you’re gonna REALLY need lots of luck.
