Are people more likely to chase flush draws in hearts? Are people more likely to chase flush draws in hearts?

I'm curious if anyone has noticed this but there's actually some pretty deep psychology linking aggression to the color red.

I guess you would have to filter for the unskilled population who play poker. Then ask yourself if the superstition of chasing red cards outweighs potential superstition connected to black cards (clubs, lucky shamrocks?).

I think the difference would be impossible to prove and essentially negligible. Also, chasing a flush is a passive play.

If you or a friend has a large database of hands you could test your theory with the correct search parameters.

Nah club draws come in 0.00005% more often then other draws. so you should chase those more often.

Have you checked to see if there's any sort of correlation between rates of flush chasing in diamonds and usage of four colour decks?

Actually had a similar conversation a while back. The question was 'Do non-heart flush draws have higher implied odds?'

Some 2+2ers would ask other players, during a session, to visualize a hand they were describing, which included a flush draw. Then they would stop and ask them what suit they were visualizing

The consensus was that hearts were visualized more frequently than other suits.

So, I don't know if people actually chase heart draws more, but your opponents will see heart draws more clearly, and so they will have lower implied odds, than other flush draws. My guess is that since people tend to associate hearts with flushes, they do tend to hold on to heart draws a little longer.

Love this sort of chit chat .. I've heard the club thing most often for sure.

My general feeling is that it's harder for a Player to separate clubs and spades since both have curves in them whereas diamonds have straight features to hearts curves. Is it enough to warrant chasing more black flushes than read? Probably not.

I'm not so sure it's 'aggression' as much as it's 'irritation' for the color red .. note the bull? Although the two words can certainly be connected I'll simple say that red is an 'emotional' color that might be both good and bad. Do we send red roses to spur 'aggression' .. maybe?

I worked for a restaurant chain that color schemed in bright red since they felt that customers would actually feel less comfortable/more excited and leave quicker, thus providing an opportunity to turn the tables more per shift instead of folks basking in the warmth of free coffee for 20 extra minutes. They've since changed their color scheme!

I think all Players have a favorite suit to a certain degree and it may affect their play a tad, but these are all tells that need to be figured out. I don't see anyone folding AsQs in a spot but keeping AhQh .. unless it's some GTO/balancing thing. GL
