Here's links to the main poker magazines. The articles aren't generally that helpful, but there's still lots of cool content (inspiration!!!):

CardPlayer

Bluff Magazine

PokerPro

CasinoPlayer, not much content for poker players, but handy for planning trips to casinos

I don't want start a tangent and clutter up the Toolbox (we can start a thread if anyone feels it's warranted), but here's the featured article on CardPlayer's website: Kentucky Fights Online Poker, Loses?

It's about the war between the worthless governor of my home state and IMEGA. It's about to reach a conclusion that could have ramifications on all of us. Online poker is in a fight for its life in the US, not just my hick-ass home state. I'm going to go out on a limb and say none of us spend enough time supporting the PPA or IMEGA; when/if online poker is taken away from us out of the blue (not that far-fetched), we'll all be left wondering what we could have done.

I know we're more concerned with improving so that we could become pro players than protecting the institution--but we're wasting our time improving if online poker gets snuffed out before we get to collect our monies

Nice thread, voted it 5 stars.

Sticky potential for beginners forum IMO.

Also, when posting hands in the strat forums... PLEASE start it with the limit you're playing.... ie
"25NL QQ on 887 reraised" or something.
It very much helps people comment accurately on your hands.

This is probably the best post for all those people that can not handle tilt or variance. Read it then read it again, and if you are still posting about being coolered read it for a third time:

+1. I realized the other day that this thread slants pretty heavily toward cash games, once you get beyond the basic, essential stuff that applies to both. If anyone else has any tournament stuff, I think the thread could greatly use it.

Ice_W0lf, I think I need to set aside some time for you to teach me how you find all this great stuff I'm terrible with the search feature; just horrible. Are there some tricks you use? For that matter, do we have a How to Use the Search link? I'm wanting to do some reading on what previous, distinguished posters had to say on 3-betting, but I'm so bad with the search, I'd just be wasting my time lol

Post 11 link #6 of this thread

A lot of this stuff are links I've come across just browsing 2p2.. reading wells, searching pooh bah posts in all the forums..searching for psa's in all the forums. Some are articles people send me a link to.

For people that are on the lookout for different articles to read... don't stick to just the one forum of the game you play.. get out and search the others. Try and learn something from pooh bah type posts from other forums.. even if it's not something that works for your game directly.. reading things from more established players about their work ethic and thought process can really be eye-opening. Probably the two best things I've done for my game in the last few months have been reading the Bryce year in perspective thread and reading raze's thread and talking to him whenever he'll let me bug him. The bryce thread really sums up the work and dedication necessary to climb the ranks and crush games that some feel there is little edge to be had. Even though he's primarily a hu lhe players.. it really was eye opening to see just how much time he put into making his game better. Raze is very similar, just in nlhe.. the work and effort he describes in his climbing the ladder thread shows what it takes to get to where so many of us want to be. /soapbox

So.. if you play nlhe.. don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone and read some of the better posts in lhe.. or if you play micro stakes..don't be afraid to check out some pooh bah posts in the small or midstakes forums.. challenge yourself, and you will be a better player because of it.

Aces.. I'd give you my aim/msn if I were home.. but I can't remember what they are.. they are somewhere on this forum if you can find them.... if not, i'll get them to you when I'm home.

Best thread ever for the 3bet happy 6max games,

http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/...0&fpart=1&vc=1

Interested thread for set-mining IP and re-stealing with PP post-flop in 3bet pots,

http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/...0&fpart=1&vc=1

Looking for some links on Min-Raises in general, either Min-Raise bluffing Small PP on the flop, Min-Raise semi-bluffing draws on the flop or the "Freeze Play" on the Turn and Min-Raise semi-bluffing draws on the Turn in order to manipulate the pot-size for a PSB shove on the River. Considering Alma's Theorum, and how cheap/effective Min-Raise Bluffing is at stealing pots or pissing off TAGGs, I think it's pretty underutilized.

Defending the BB by flatting and donking into the PFR would be interesting, as well as c/cing flops and leading turns.

Also, I really, really wish I could find a link to using Baluga's Theorum to add to the FE of Turn Semi-Bluffs with draws, just because I think Flop Semi-Bluffs are SO overrated.

Alright, I'll either dig up some links or start threads and be back later.

Aces,

One hint on finding good threads is to occasionally take a look at the threads your favorite posters are posting in.

i haven't read everything yet, but i think it is worth putting any good info in here about sample size. maybe not the calculation stuff that you can plug in to excel doc or website, but something explaining in plain english that 2k hands is no where near the number of hands to base anything on.

lots of posts in bf atm quoting very small samples.

An ajrenni post led me to find these 2 great links..

Analysis of a Downswing- Well known deucescracked contributor BalugaWhale analyzes a downswing in 2006 when he tried to make it at 25nl and 50nl and went busto.

NLP and Comfort Zone- Poster 1fineday tells us what we can do to improve the way we think about downswings and tilt sessions using Neuro Linguistic Programming.. and also challenges us to get out of our comfort zone.
