When it comes to solvers like PioSolver, does anyone else find that it to be insanely complex and highly intricate to use? I'm just trying to get started on it and it looks daunting to say the least. I'm wondering if people feel the same way in which case at least I'm not alone, or if people find it easy to use maybe I'm worrying for nothing!

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

Hi everyone... I've been out of the game for a while and wasn't sure where to post this, so I figured here couldn't be bad.

I'd like to get back into playing and was wondering about SNG's. What resource are people using to study these nowadays? PIO solver? HRM? SNGsolver?

Also, what the going way to track your play? Poker tracker or holdemmanager?

Thanks in advance.

SNG's are basically solved above lower levels, so there's nothing left to study

Where would one go / Which software would one use in order to find the solutions?

Does "EV" only apply to you going all-in? The only times I've heard EV mentioned during Negreanu vs Polk is when it's referring to an all-in.

EV is your expected value and it applies at any point in a hand

Thanks! Also in live tournaments when the buy-in says $100+$10 (for example) what does this mean? Is it buy-in + amount extra added to prize pool?

$100 is the buy in, $10 is the rake

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

Is there a quick <5-10 min video that goes over the rules of the game and how it's played?

Possibly similar to the old intro to WSOP broadcasts?

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

When you say someone has a "capped range" does this mean it is the peak hands such as AA, KK, or does it mean it can only be so high, so not AA, KK? I'm thinking capped means as in ice caps, the top, but maybe not.

Do online players often play on multiple different websites and do they use a different username for each one? I'm thinking that if they use the same name across the board then opponents might recognise them and their type of play, so they use something else for each site.

Hero raises UTG, then MP 3bets, and UTG calls (folds all round elsewhere). Post-flop UTG cbets, is this a donk bet? He was the original raiser but MP showed the most aggression. What's the rules on "leading in" here?

Thanks!

Also what's the deal with so many poker players getting involved in the stock market? I've never cared about it and rarely heard of it but ever since I followed a few people on Twitter my feed is inundated with how the stock market is doing. Now it's actually got me slightly interested in it and I kind of wished I done it previously when I was in a better financial position.

Back in the oldish days I'd use Hold'Em Manager 1 for a HUD and TableNinja for some hotkeys during gameplay.

What kinds of software are used nowadays while playing?
And is there a good reason to replace those with somethinge else, like newer version?

Yes, that's a donk bet, UTG is out of position and doesn't have the betting lead. Generally to be avoided because there's few boards where you have a range advantage. The 3-better has more premium hands like AA, KK, QQ, AK which would be likely to be 4-bet from UTG.

'Capped range' means exactly that - UTG's range in this scenario doesn't have many top, top premium hands. So the latter answer you gave to your original question.

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

I've just started preparing to play very low-stakes online poker. I read a basic introductory book, then Small Stakes Hold'em by Miller, then a couple of the Jonathan Little books (mastering and beating small stakes NLH).

What I haven't really been able to work out is what to do with all the ranges suggested between these books. Should I commit them to memory or consult them in the middle of games? I feel like I've studied them enough to have a decent idea of which hands to play in which situations but it would require a great deal of effort to learn every single variation by wrote. What do most ppl do with these?

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

Opening ranges shouldn't be static, and charts should just be used as a guide. In saying that, if you're just starting out and aren't sure whether or not you should open a hand from your position, it's perfectly fine to check out the charts while you play.

If you're talking about other charts (calling charts, 3 bet charts etc), it's probably best to just play your game, but make a note about hands you were unsure of, and to study them later. It would be a bit overwhelming to do that while you are playing.

As you're starting you probably want to stick to the charts.
What works best for me is just using them while playing.
Start with one or two positions for a single stack size.
After a few hours of play you should be used to them and know them by hard without too much effort.
Then move on to the next one.

Once you've got this down mostly, you can start adjusting those ranges based on the situation you're in.
But if you don't know a solid standard range, it's hard to make adjustments based on your situation.

Something important to note here, it's useless to know the ranges if you don't actually use them.
It's much easier to learn to use them than to study them by hard and then forget to actually use them while playing.

Can you search for a player on PokerStars? For example can I search "Lady Maverick" and watch Vanessa Rousso play?

In limit poker, if someone wants to sit to the left or right of you what does that mean? I saw a player move to sit to my left twice, not sure why.

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

Generally speaking players move because they want to have a different position on someone and to know what they've done beforehand
