Much appreciated

thunderbolts,
I am quoting from PokerListings.com

The stakes covered are explained on their/our site.

Not very well IMO, Fozzy. The reason you see these questions from time to time is because what the site says is:

Quote:
This version is usable at only the smallest games.

Limits covered: .25/.$50 No Limit, .50/$1 Limit and up to $22 buy-in tournaments
If it said up to .25/.$50 No Limit, and up to .50/$1 Limit (to match what it says for tournaments) I doubt anyone would ever ask. A small change on the website might save you dealing with this question repeatedly!

Is there any particular reason that the standard opening pfr is 3bb?

Yes, I have brought this up a few times with management and site devs. The OM2 page mentions 'up to' as well. I will send another email about it.

Ok so just to clarify the small stake hem2 does track games below 50NL? I did look at the site but as thunderbolt suggested the wording does make it sound like it only covered one particular stake.

Yes, it does.

Is it possible to be a profitable online player? I mean is it REALLY possible, not for the purposes of marketing online poker to fish but realistically. And what proportion of online players are profitable? (Please don't say 30% just because that's the official marketing-to-fish answer. Give me the REAL number.)

Yes, but it takes a lot of hard work and study if you want to win at above 1c/2c games (it's certainly much much tougher than live games). I'd guess maybe 10% of online players are profitable?

Are there any reliable online guides I can read as to how to (potentially) become a profitable poker player? I'm concerned about reading guides that teach a bad approach for the purpose of suckering fish so the sharks can eat.

The time spent isn't worth it for individuals to actively write bad strategy deliberately. If you want a very basic guide, read BlackRain79's Crushing the Microstakes but take it with a big pinch of salt and I wouldn't recommend it for above 1c/2c.

Utg 3bb because raising bigger has diminishing effect in %steal succed + raising bigger makes you more vulnerable to 3bets ip

Is Belinda levez worth reading for a beginner. I am just starting to read one of her books, play and win Texas holdem and she makes the mistake in her book of calling 10d, 9d, 8d, 7d, 6d a flush that is a lesser hand than a full house. I am just starting out in poker but even I know this is a straight flush which beats a full house. Has anyone read her Material. Should I keep on reading this.

Never heard of her but a quick search on Amazon suggests she's the author of various fine titles on how to win at horse racing and how to beat the casino. Rather suggests she's (a) no poker expert; and (b) not writing about anything that will help anyone. The error you found could be an editing error but in the circumstances might just betray the quality of the book.

Ask in the Books and Publications forum for some recommended books (explain a bit about what sort of poker you want to learn to play and whether it's live or online). And see whether they've heard of this author. My sense is that her "poker books" aren't really poker books.
