I'm not sure if it meets the requirements for a slowroll, since you do have a (trivial) decision to make, call or shove; also I'm not sure you can slowroll if it's possible to lose the hand.

All that aside, it shouldn't take long to decide to shove surely?

SB had JJ. If i snap shoved it might have looked like i just had a really big hand. But i tanked there for short time, i wanted to make it look like i had a weaker hand i wasn't unsure of.

AFq = (Bets + Raises) / (Bets + Raise + Calls + Folds) <-- Are only Raises as first action, Calls as first action and Folds as first action used in this calculation (so "bet then fold" only counts as bet)?

2. Same for PFR and many other stats. Are stats always referred to the first action as long as they don't have a "total" in front of them?

3. Is a checkraise a raise as first action or do checks count as first actions?
I feel like my questions were too dumb for the Dumb Questions Thread.

That's really hard.

I'm in the big blind, playing live 1/2 NL. Only the 3rd hand I've played, and I don't have any reads on the other players yet. Under the gun raises to $15 and gets 5 callers. I look down at 76o.

I'm getting about 6.5 -1 odds to call, ($15 x 6 + blinds - $6 rake & BBJ = $87 and I need $13 to make the call) immediately, and figure that the implied odds are pretty good here as well. I have $200 in my stack.

Is calling here a good idea? Am I getting the right odds to make the call?

Thank you.

IMO, stop wasting money by posting out of turn.

I'm not at all a fan of unsuited connectors but since you're closing the action and will play a huge pot if you hit, calling is fine here. Would be helpful if you had some reads and awareness of table structure, ie; whether you're likely to get odds to chase, but whatever.

i was watching the wsop FT 2013. why is everyone min raising? steals/UTG raise, and even 3 bets, all min raises.

Sorry, thought that I had replied to this. As for posting out of turn - I don't. Not all casinos require one to post when first sitting down. But good advice!

You're absolutely correct that it would be nice to have had more information, but such is life, sometimes.

Thanks for the good advice. I am going to be spending more time reading, and occasionally posting, in the LLSNL forum.

Risk less to win a pot, you need less folds to make it profitable

Stacks a lot shorter in tournaments than cash games. Min raising allows more post-flop play which is where the best players are able to make their edge count most effectively.

Also means you risk less to win the same amount. Eg if you try to steal in the CO and fold to a 3-bet you lose 2BB instead of 3.

If SPR is 1, calling a shove on the flop with a flush draw is +EV?

Why not plug a few ranges into Equilab and work out whether it's +EV or not? FWIW you would usually have enough equity but it's much more valuable to do this kind of exercise yourself.

I did, but I'm just starting to play around with an EV formula. But yeah, I'm complicating it...

I was thinking which scenario would be ok for me to do the shoving.

It depends on who the limper(s) are. Take notes on what kinds of hands a particular player is limping with, and in which positions he limps with those kinds of hand. Generally, I like to 4x a pre flop limper too with position, or even from the blinds with a hand like KQs or 99 and better. It may just be that your opponents believe they can outplay you in particular because they have seen you give up after 4x'ing a limper. If you lose after doing this, make sure you do it again as soon as you get another chance to keep up a table image. But if it is a loose table with a bunch of limpers pre flop every hand, you may not be able to scare them all out by 4x'ing. If that's the case, given the stakes, I would suggest ignoring lost pots and tightening up your 4x range while continuing to play exactly the same.

tighten up, and valuebet then relentlessly and give up as soon they fire back (if they r loose passive)

I'm sure this has already been said a billion times but I don't use a HUD and I'm trying to figure out all the HUD related acronyms. Is there a guide to identifying all of the terms? When someone describes someone as like 22/13/4 what does that mean?

Any direction would be appreciated.
I've played casual poker for years and used to go to AC to play limit HE occasionally. Did ok but it was boring and a long trip from north of DC.

Now that MD Live is open I'd like to start playing 1-2 NL there.

I have no interest in being a pro or getting too wrapped up in the need to win.

I've been to MDLive once, walked away with 60 BBs but I really had no clue how most of the people at the table were valuing their hands or playing.
When a guy in the cutoff stayed in for a small raise and flopped trips and eventually showed 27o, I was totally bewildered.

I've tried reading the boards here but they are so very jargon heavy (do people feel like better players if they use a lot of jargon in their posts?) and assume so much I don't know that I get very little out of them.

I want to be able to understand estimating other players hands, evaluate my hand against theirs and a little basic stuff - not to be a huge winner but only to have a little more understanding and fun.

Can you suggest some resources or books?

I don't have a great deal of time - or actually interest - to study but just want some fundamentals so I can enjoy myself.

TIA,

Lew the Newbie

Sad but true, you're probally not gonna make it far without a HUD, probally.

What is the exact definition of cold call?

I saw a thread here
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/11...actly_-215115/

And I don't understand which answer is correct

No, people correctly feel their posts are clearer and more to the point if they use descriptive and accurate terminology.

Would you go to a car forum and complain about everyone using obscure jargon like "carburetor" and "spark plug"?

Read the FAQ. If need be, keep the glossary open in another window or tab for reference while you read the forums.

Anyone have experience on rake races? How much do you have to play in order to make profit in these?
What i assume is that you have to be a high volume (high stakes?) player, but is this the case?
