Welcome.

Just as an FYI, Dumb Questions is not the place for chat. There are several Beginners Chat threads.

How do you work out what kind of sample sizes you need for accurate ROI in SnGs, tournaments?

Is there a bunch of formulae out there I can use to find out how big you'd a sample size you'd need for a certain accuracy threshold with field size taken into account? I'm decent with maths but don't really know anything about statistics. Sorry if this is the wrong place for a question like this.

What are some general pointers on how to play somebody who likes to slow play a lot? Should i take the free streets and try to hit a bigger hand or raise at first to find out if he really has anything? This if for STTs

Should I be tighter at a table where I have 53BB and everybody else has 18BB or less when it is still 7 handed in order to let other people knock each other out first? This is for STTs

I am looking for some resources or forum topic on end of game SNGs STTs where it is down to 2 or 3 handed. I seem to have a lot of 2nd and 3rd place finishes which is frustrating because the real money is made in first. I think this might be due to my poor heads up play, but am having a tough time finding topics specifically dealing with this. I find a lot of straight heads up stuff but not when it comes at the end of a STT where blinds are already high and stack sizes are often different. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

basically just play with pokerstove and understand what you can shove unexploitably, then pick up on his tendencies if he looks like he'll call tighter/looser and/or work out what sort of calling range you can make on his shoves

Are there any differences between PokerStar's Zoom and Full Tilt's Rush Poker? I only played Zoom briefly and don't find it that fun so just wondering if anyone knows better?

It's very similar to Rush, and probably isn't going to be to everyone's taste.

If you change screen name, will pokertable ratings (or similar) continue to track you?
Oh, and villains' PT & HEM?

Do they track you currently with your "old" sn? If so....why would you think they would be unable to track you with a new sn?

(((Is your question: "Can they link two screen names as the same player?")))

I was under the impression you can change sn every six months.
I will check.

Bankroll management question:

I have $18 on merge and no reload option. What's the best way to build my roll while minimizing variance?

I prefer full ring cash if possible. The smallest stakes I could find are 4NL with a minimum buy in of $1.20. Is buying in short optimal for reducing variance? I'm guessing that nitting it up is correct to reduce variance, but just how tight should I play? 10/8? 12/10? How often should I cbet?

I have no interest in moving beyond 4NL. My goal is to just be able to slowly build up to 40 buyins. Not busting my BR takes much more precedence than building it. Thanks

on party (every 180 days, or 30 days for palladium VIP+, or by opening a new account on another skin which is allowed), on cake (every 7 days), on ipoker (by opening a new account on a different skin which is allowed) yeah. not on stars

as mentioned you stop getting tracked on your old SN, PTR just freezes in time, and you start getting tracked on PTR and villain's HUD on new SN, starting from unknown, 0 hands

I'm currently doing something similar on stars (I was having a downswing so decided to cash out and left only $5 in my account). Goal to grind that to $100 and work on my cash game play while doing so. I'm going about it playing micro cash and buying-in for the min ($.80) and play real tight but solid. I did this until i got my BR up to $15-$20 then i started buy-in full stack ($2 for the 2nl cash games). I could also multi table. So i would recommend you do this. Once you have at least a 20-30+ buy-ins you can pick your spots and play more legit poker since the tight game gets pretty boring and in the long term will not help you improve much. I would recommend playing some SnG's too if you're into those (once your BR gets a bit bigger). Not sure how the buy-ins vary on merge but SnG's are usually very soft at micro. I did that when i got to $50 (playing $1.50 knock-out SnG's). Currently still grinding it up with zoom (for intense volume) and i'm up to $64. So on track so far.

I would only 3-bet/shoving AK+ maybe AQ at the beginning of my session depending. You can loosen up a bit as you get more comfortable and figure out the table dynamic. Playing hands in position that you open the pot with is also very key when you're short stack as you can control the pot size much better.

I would recommend this type of challenge for anyone who wants to work on their core game. Just make sure you have enough buy-ins before moving up or anything like that so bad beats don't make you got ****ing crazy and you'l enjoy the game more + less risk. gl man.

I've been searching for a few hours on my phone and have tried Google, but haven't received a satisfactory answer, so I'll try it here.

I am trying to devise a strategy for how to manage my bankroll. One of my many leaks is spending my poker winnings as fast as I get them, so my bankroll has no real shot of growing. I have a part time job that pays the bills, but doesn't leave much left over. I would like to get a system in place for managing my winnings, leaving most of them in my bankroll while still taking some out for life savings. Are there any common formulas or systems out there? Should I be keeping 90% in the bankroll? 75%? Any feedback is appreciated.

You could try just seperating your bankroll from your life and not touching at all.

Yes, that is an option. But, while I do have a job, it is part time and I would like to supplement my admittedly modest income with my poker. I am not looking to completely depend on poker for my livelihood, just for a little extra. Is this faulty thinking?
