What does it mean?
A tournament with a $2.20 buy-in and 180 players.

The $.20 is the fee, the rake.

Think of it like sales tax.

The tournament is $2.00 + $.20.

The $2 goes into the prize pool. The $.20 goes to the poker site. That's how they make their money.

Why does Wal Mart price something at $4.99 + $.35 sales tax (or whatever) instead of straight up $5.00?

Same idea.

(If you live somewhere that doesn't have sales tax, imagine you're on vacation or something...)

I don't understand pot sized bets preflop. For example, it says that there is $0.03 in pot, but when i click the psb button I bet $0.07. Post flop everything seems normal. I'm playing on FT, if that matters.

if it's .01/.02, a pot raise is to .07. there's three cents in there, and with your two, it's a raise of five.

What does the 'river call efficiency' stat in Hold'em Manager mean, and how is it calculated?

number of river calls

I've got a question about the manner in which the average player wins. The past couple of weeks have been my first serious foray into cash games so pardon my ignorance.

It seems that my winning (and losing) sessions are mostly built around the big hands. I'll lose small pots but steal blinds or pick up small pots with c-bets and my stack seems to fluctuate plus or minus a few big blinds until the big hands come along. To start, I was either winning these or minimizing losses and was winning for 15-20 ptbb/100. Then I hit some skids, took some tough beats, made some bad plays which lead to me losing the big pots and I dropped a couple of buy ins and my ptbb/100 falls to around 4. That stabilized a bit and then today, again, I'm mostly break even until one big pot where I get lucky with my pocket kings verses player 1's aces and player 2's queens and boom made back all my lost profit and then some and my ptbb/100 jumps to over 12.

Now, I realize this is only after a little less than 3,000 tracked hands, but I was wondering if this was common or if I should expect a more steady build of my stack (punctuated by big wins) if I hope to be a winning player?

The u is close to the Greek for "micro", so uNL signifies micro stakes no limit.

It's also played limit.

NL Omaha would be all-in every hand.

It's the name of the publishing company.

2+2=4 is a very common expression implying that something is simple. So it's effectively shorthand for, "Our books make poker simple".

The results websites aren't perfect. They miss some things.

Equity.

Due to the dead money in the pot in almost every hand it will be correct for multiple players to shove the flop while others will shove anyway even though they might not quite have the math on their side.
