I'm nowhere near experienced enough to write a COTW. I have difficulty absorbing the ones already written never mind trying to vomit one out myself.

Not really. An "official" COTW might be a bit much, but we all have to start somewhere... Collect your thoughts, lay out what you think or what your questions are and start a thread.

Alternately, post a request in the COTW schedule thread:

Cheers,

I'll do a request with my thoughts and questions and maybe someone will run with it.

Figured it out. I'm just an idiot. I was using FPPs instead of VPPs.

Thanks for your help, though.

Another question. I saw someone with this graph:

What's the difference between the two lines?

First dumb question from a live player...

I'm sure this has been answered 100 times in this thread.

Just from reading the forums, I notice a lot of talk about "Villain is running 18/11/5 etc. etc."

What do those 3 numbers stand for?

The green line, "amount won" (the legend is at the bottom) is the actual amount of money won.

The tan/brownish line, "net expected won" is the amount that the tracking program thinks you should have won based on your equity when the money went in for each hand. For example, if you and villain get the money in on the flop and he has just a flush draw vs your overpair, he will have about 36% equity. So the tracking program will report your expected value for that pot to be about 64% of the total pot, and his expected value to bet about 36% of the total pot. It's not the end all be all of determining how you are doing, though. It doesn't account for lots of things like bad runs of cards, coolers, range vs range, etc. It's more of a way to get a general idea of if you are running hot or cold, and it doesn't really even provide a definite answer for that.

So, over time you would expect those lines to diverge and converge back and forth, but it's based less on how you're playing and more on how the cards are falling?

Yes, you would expect the lines to diverge and converge. For the most part it will be about how the cards are falling, but how you are playing can certainly impact it.

It says not to post results...
But I have a question about a winning hand.

I had K(H)K(S) he had 4(D) 7(C)
the community cards looked like 2(D), 10(D), 6(D), 9(D), 3(D)

I was told I lost, but if its the best 5 cards didnt I also have a flush, with a King kicker?
He had a flush with a 7 kicker.

Please let me know. Thanks

Your cards become irrelevant because they have been trumped by the board making a non-diamond kicker worthless because it's the best 5 cards each player can put together. The other guy could beat the board because he had a higher ranking diamond hole card (in the pocket) and unfortuantely you didn't.

At showdown you compare hands to see who wins and the best 5 cards you could make was the board a diamond flush.

2(D), 10(D), 6(D), 9(D), 3(D)

Whereas the best he could make was

4(D), 10(D), 6(D), 9(D), 3(D) [with the 2(D) being disregarded]

Hope this helps.

Better luck next time.

No, that would be six cards. T 9 6 3 2 K (count them, there's 6)

Neither of your kings nor his 7 matters. As the previous poster mentioned the best five card hand wins. He wins because his 4 plays. This means he does not have to use the 2 which you do so his hand is better.

Luck has deserted me. Can't win a race, can't improve when needed etc is it best to take a few days off or just keep playing and wading through the suckouts/ lack of luck? I have frustration tilt but not annoyance/rage

Why do people, who play the same stakes, wait at other tables (for long periods of time) instead of playing with each other?

With, say, a million dollars on the line would Tiger Woods rather play against Phil Mickelson or you?

Because they want to play really bad players instead of decent players.
