thanks .
If you're nervous about doing something wrong just do everything through the dealer that's what he's employed for. Poker players are like any other people - you'll get people who are patient and will be happy to guide you along and you'll get others who are impatient and cranky. I've only played a few times live and found the people playing to be friendly and helpfull. Best way to get used to it is by just jumping in. You have to get wet to learn how to swim!

Good luck at the tables.

I'm sure this question is answered in the Beginner FAQ but for some reason when I try and expand the Dictionary and Jargon portion it opens up really quick and then closes. Anyway, I was curious what LC/NC threads are exactly and what the acronyms LC and NC stand for in this case. Thanks in advance!

low content/no content. they're self-explanitory.

LC = low content.
NC = no content.
So the LC/NC threads are where people post when they have something they want to post that isn't really important/relevant enough to start a new thread. There's a lot of random banter and chatter, usually.

Just read EMcWilliams' old Reverse Implied Odds post in the strategy thread and a few questions came to mind.

1 - Which pre-flop situations are likely to turn into RIO situations post-flop?

2 - Is the Stack to Pot Ratio a contributing factor?

3 - If SPR is relevant should we attempt to manipulate it, e.g. by 3-betting, or just fold?

Thanks.

Why would you not like to use tournament dollars instead of real dollars?

How much more difficult are the smallest stake games compared to play money games? I'm playing at Stars, if it matters.

I just got interested in poker a few days ago, learned the rules, proceeded to lose all 1000 of the chips and then after getting a reload I've read some stuff directed and beginners and slowly leaked chips away, although today I played breakeven. My current plan is to win my losses back and then some in play money NLHE and then take the plunge to playing for real money.

You can't do it yourself.

I suppose you could try PMing the mod of the forum you posted it in and asking nicely.

Just a quick thanks for this thread and everyone who contributed.

How long do you guys keep your hand histories (especially for HUD purposes)?

Also, just to fulfill my own curiosity, I tried plugging some numbers to figure out about how long it would take for people at different limits to hit Elite status on Stars. It's just a rough estimate because of changing variables (especially pot size) and by my figures, the lowest limits are practically impossible, of course. However, if I'm right, it seems that someone playing 40 or so hours a week at 100nl and doing around 6 tables should be able to hit it in less than 6 months. Does that seem right to you high volume guys?

I think both Pokertracker and Hold 'Em Manager have options that automatically archive older ones. Why ever delete them unless you're running out of disk space?

Are you talking about supernova elite? I think it's a lot harder to hit than that. If you're using the calculator at pokerstars.com, it will largely overestimate the amount of VPPs you will accrue. I don't keep up with it that much though, so some fact checking there wouldn't hurt.

I'm not sure about the VPP calculator at pokerstars.com, but I know a lot of the rakeback calculators were created back in the super loose days of poker and just never updated to reflect modern game conditions.
