How can you not use HUDs for reads? You use all the information possibly available, that's the whole point.

You seem to have misunderstood the whole HUDs aren't a replacement for reads argument. Yes HUDs aren't a replacement, but they should help us in developing reads.

Also making notes on players when you are going back looking through hands is even more +EV than it is in reg tables because not everyone does it.
10-26-2013 , 09:21 AM
Prefer regular tables for all the reasons mentioned.
Only thing I like about Zoom is you can start playing right away and not have to sit in wait lists.
So if you have a short time to play, like 30 mins, you can get right into it.
But, I find it trickier to play so I stick to reg tables.

You're probably underusing your HUD tbh. They're great for identifying spots where you should add exploitative imbalance to your ranges, especially once you have enough hands for turn stats to be meaningful.

I don't use HUDs to make reads since they only tell us half of the story. I definitely use them to help make reads, but they're not the sole thing I use for said reads.

My HUD is literally just VPIP/PFR/3Bet/Hands. I don't feel the need to use too many others. At times I'll check cbet% and some other stats, but I tend to just stick to what I and make reads based on previous hands, timing, sizing, those sort of things.

I think half the reason for not wanting to use a HUD is that I dislike clutter on my tables. I've only got a 24" monitor, so when I start adding a tonne of tables it gets a bit annoying to see all the clutter from a HUD with a lot of stats.
10-26-2013 , 09:31 AM
You're missing too much information like that.
10-26-2013 , 09:39 AM
^^ Agreed.

Here's mine for 6m which I consider minimal :/

10-26-2013 , 09:49 AM
Mine's much larger than Birdayy's still, and I use every stat on it fairly frequently.
10-26-2013 , 10:01 AM
How do you get that "V" and "P" in your HUD? Dunno if it is that helpful though since my HUD will get quite big that way but I'll have a try anyway.

My HUD isnt that big either:

Name/#hands
Vpip/pfr/3bet/F3bet/af
Flop cbet/F to flop cbet/Turn cbet/ F to turn cbet

I also have a couple of steal stats and vs steal stats in my hud, cant exactly tell which ones from out the top of my head though.

@TDA what kind of stats are you talking about? Besides the stats on my hud I cant really think of much other stats I would use quite frequently tbh
10-26-2013 , 10:08 AM
I guess I might need to consider setting up a new HUD then. :P
Thinking about trying out PokerTracker 4 too. HEM2 is alright, but I find the interface a bit annoying, and somewhat laggy on my tables.

Mine also. You can get everything u use often on a HUD, rest on a popup which you should/can also customise

Uh... my HUD looks like:

Notes/Player name/hands/VPIP/PFR/AF/WTSD/W$SD
3bet/FT3B/ATS/Fold to steal/Resteal/4bet/Fold to 4bet
Cbet flop/FTFCB/Float flop/Donk flop/Cbet turn/Fold to turn cbet

Thinking about replacing the 'float flop' stat with a 'bet vs missed cbet' one.
10-26-2013 , 10:42 AM
I guess my HU hud is a little more fun.

10-26-2013 , 10:47 AM
Mine is:
VPIP/PFR/HANDS/AF
Cbet flop/fold to fcbet/Cbet turn/fold to tcbet/cbet in 3bet pot/fold to cbet in 3bet pot
3bet/Fold to 3bet/4bet/Fold SB to steal/Fold BB to steal
Open raise by each position

I tend to tinker with it a bit depending on player pool at that limit, but I use everything on there each time I play.

I also can't over emphasise how useful the bottom row is of open raise by position. Even in Zoom you fairly quickly see who is playing positionally, or huge anomalies in villain's raising ranges

I have customised popups as well to show some of the stats you have on you HUD TDA, like float flop, bet v missed cbet, donking etc

Here it is in action (don't use abbreviations as I know where everything is and what they mean so just takes up space):

Imo definitely worth spending an hour or so properly thinking about what you want to see during a game and what you use the most often. If you're no 100% familiar with your HUD and popups then you're not using them for their full potential, which only means losing value in your play one way or another
10-26-2013 , 10:54 AM
I hate hands like this. I know I made the correct play, it's just one of the only situations that makes me react emotionally these days. P*sses me off!

      Flop is fine I think.

      Turn I just GII.

      10-26-2013 , 12:00 PM
@ oly you definitely need more stats on your hud. No wonder you can't build reads using it.
      10-26-2013 , 12:03 PM
Now I see all these screenshots of HUDs, do you guys color code stats based on their actual meaning (f.e. vpip =30+ is darkgreen) or do you just give it a color to make it clear for yourself which stat is which?

(Sorry for all my HUD questions but I'm kind of a noob with HUD's so I appreciate all insights/ideas on the concept)
      10-26-2013 , 12:17 PM
I used to but I think its redundant once you have decent experience with your hud and normal ranges for stats.
      10-26-2013 , 12:18 PM
      ^Bit of both

Colour code ones that will converge earliest, like vpip/pfr/3bet, but the positional stats are just coloured so I can quickly tell which is which rather than counting from left to right each time
      10-26-2013 , 02:01 PM
      Today has been rubbish

Had solidified the move to 25nl Zoom pretty well and was nearing $1k bank roll but from the jaws of victory comes a downswing

      Spoiler:

Looking at the big hands there is a couple of spews in there (trying to take advantage of capped ranges ldo!), but about 2/3rds is just unlucky (ie the fish got there) and I've missed a hella lot of flops today.

Never mind, didn't think I could sustain the 27 bb/100 winrate
      10-26-2013 , 02:29 PM
Heh, looks like you use a similar colour coding scheme to me:
      Fish
      Nit
"Weak Tight" i.e. 19/10 types who are generally scared post flop but often do weird stuff like overvalue a good PF hand
      Also have:
"Reg" which is really only regarding PF ranges of 17-23/15-22 or similar
      Aggro fish
      Loose passive 25-30 VPIP / <20 PFR
Loose Aggressive Same but PFR 24-29 ish

Had a big winning session (4BI), though I was down a BI at one point. Up 200 for the month now, hoping to win some more and retain GoldStar. Just short of 2k up at 25NL Zoom too.

      1) Nits need to remember their own image. Never raising anything less than a set in this spot against this guy (maybe AA if I flatted it pre).
