I take notes on pretty much everyone I play against. If I gain some info on the player I was just in a hand against, I will take note of that for the future. Pretty much just his actions preflop and postflop. Was just interested to know how anyone else takes notes.

example for me.

player1 (shove for 300bbs with limpers with?)
player2 (limp shove pre to raise with aces)
player3 (check flop when raised pre if he missed)

I know the above notes in my example aren't the greatest notes in the world. A situation in the future with the same player won't guarantee that he doing the same thing thus, making my note taking kind of flawed although it does help me adjust for them in the future.

Any advice on how to take better notes or have a more systematic approach to it?

I really need to start doing this, what is the best way to start though? I would of thought you need to see the action at least 10/20/30 times before you can make a concrete not about it.

Would a decent template be:

tight from EP/ATC from button
only call 3bet with two face cards/PP's (+8)
c/c made hands on flop/turn/river
chases draws without proper odds
shoves missed draws river/check small bet to induce bluff with made draws

Are these the notes I should be aiming for, rather than 'spaz shoves AA on Jxx board 300bb) etc. that only involve one hand, as ranges are far more important.

Yes, I forgot to include things like position and 3bet calling range as I do include that in my notes. And yes, that seems like a decent template for taking notes.

Though I don't usually wait 10/20/30 times for said player to do the same thing over and over again. If it's a new unknown I'm playing against, I'll take a note on him for the future the first time. Don't really see why I wouldn't as it obviously won't hurt down the road.

As long as you don't take the not as gospel. For example a player bets 95% of the time, but has picked up a specific read on villain such as if he checks his hand, villain will bet, allowing player to c/r. You see this a note, 'x player c/r flop with nuts'. Next time this situation occurs when HU with you and player, he bets, you assume his bet means weak/notsogreat hand so raise it when if you didn't have the prior read you would have called and player milks your stack.

I know, extreme example, yet what I am saying is I don't feel it beneficial to take a note after one such action, when it could be an outlier. If you constantly modified notes the more you played then it would develop a far better read. I suppose you can't do that though without an initial read, so meh.

For me with notes, I take notes on players who play outside of my expected range of them to play. After I see their hand, if their play/call confuses me I take note so that way when making my decision I might change my normal approach to the pot when it involves them. I'll take notes like "Willing to call xbbs in xposition with xcallers" ect or "Will fold hands with 7bbs left while in BB position; safe to push into" ect

Really I think it's fine to make small notes and just build upon them the more you see them and keep refining them if you see them again. Any note is an edge, even if it's not 100% accurate and they can only get more accurate as you correct/revise them.

-Likes to make big calls
-Capable of 3 barreling with air.
-Donk bets pot size with weak/no pair hands.
-Donks MW with sets

etc. Stuff that sets them apart from the standard

I like to make notes of non standard things as well. I managed to induce a guy to call my river bet twice last night with some table chat holding the nuts. So I keep notes on things like that. The next time I'm in a hand with him I can look up those notes, and maybe this time, in a similar situation, change it up and be completely silent. Notes are the bread and butter of rush imo.

Hand where theres a lot of action I like to sit out and try to see some hands at showdown for note taking purposes.
