Dear All,

I've a stupid/simple newbie question regarding starting hands. There's lots of starting hand charts on google image, my question is in the usage of them.

In general (be it tournament or cash game, NL or FL etc), do you follow the staring hands chart exactly/ most of the time, ie folding everytime when you get "bad hands" as defined by the chart.

In short how do you use the starting hands chart to your benefit in detail?

Other advice welcome too

Thanks for your time and reply!

Peace

A good player won't play static preflop ranges, and so hand charts are of little use. The only use they are is getting a rough idea of positional awareness and which cards to play.

I am on co position......I haveJcJh
UTG loose player raise it to 30
4 callers
I raise it to 105
2 callers
pot about 375
Flop was Kd3h7c
UTG bets 150
Mp folds
I call from co position
Turn is 2s
I make it 100
He calls
He did mot raise
If he had a king
Would not he have raised me
River is 5c

Check back, your only getting called by better hands and given the preflop action he likely has a K. Given what happened here pre- I dont put anymore money in post flop.

Also your squeeze was too small, 30x4- 120 and you raise to 105 basically gives everybody 2:1 to call. I'd day something like 180 would be better to raise to.

The rake is ridiculous at those levels. I don't know why people recommend to play at them.

My advice would be save $250 and play 25NL. The players aren't that much better anyway.

Your turn bet was too small to mean anything, it just looks weak. You're giving him 7-to-1 odds. No, he wouldn't necessarily have raised with a K even then. Even if he has AK, he doesn't want to create a huge pot with TPTK and he certainly doesn't want to with QK or some other K with a middling kicker, but he still has you beat. You should check back.

My 2c.

anything you would have done different here? I didnt fold pre because I had suited connector and was able to see cheap flop. I play pretty tight and try to get good value with good cards. I understand equity but have not started to calculate it, just go with my gut.

No need to bump up an old thread to ask a simple question like this. Rider will not respond in this thread..... as you can see for yourself.

Start a new thread if you want answers as what to do with a rivered second nuts.
