I am wondering if someone can point me in the direction of some good resources. I relize that sklansky is a heavy math player and that you do not have to be that indepth to be a winning player. However I would like to use all this math at the table.
I can play me cards pretty well, i can play to my opponents tendicies (not so well but getting there). Now I use immediate pot odds to calculate weather I should continue with my draws, and for my redraws with a mediocre hand. Now should I use effective odds for every hand when Im planning on seing the turn and river if I hit my hand or get offered correct odds call the river?
If I have called a bet and there is a raise behind me, I use immediate pot odds again to make my descion - should I be using effective odds here too? OR adjust the pot odds due to the position?
should I only use impiled odds when Im drawing to the nuts?
Thanks in advance for all the help.
Once I have these concepts nails, I will be moving on to other odds sections and plan to contribute a full guide posted on these forums.
If you're really into the math, read "The Mathematics of Poker" by Bill Chen.
You should always take your implied odds into account when drawing, for example your implied odds are basically zero when you have A2 on a KQJx board, but large when you have a better concealed draw, like Q8 on a 69T board.
Hey again, thanks for the advice - I have ordered the mathematics of poker and look forward to reading it. I think that I have finnally figured out how to use my odds. Can you please just tell me if my gudie lines are correct.
When Im on the flop.
- I will use immediate pot odds v out odds
- Then I will take my effective odds into consideration
- If im drawing to the nuts I will use implied odds
When im on the turn
- I will use pots odds (adjusted if there is a raiser yet to act) v my out odds
- I will use implied odds drawing to the nuts
On the river
- I will use win odds v my pot odds
Thanks again for the great advice and I hope that im(finally) correct.
