It depends on how many tables you play. At higher limits some people recommend 30 buy-in's+, however at NL5 20 should be fine. When I moved up I was playing 4 tables at a time, so I moved up at $120. Enough for 20 buy-in's and a 4-table shot.

I was up 3BI when I started. I lost two huge pots and now im only up 1BI but I managed to hit gold star. hopefully I can make use of it in march.

I lost two big hands (2BI). AA and KK, I think I played them both badly tbh.

here I put him on 89s on the turn. (but I was probably just talkingmyself into it)

my other BI was with KK, again we got it in on the turn and I messed this one up because of 6 tabling.

At first I thought he might be just raising because he is a solid looking reg and knows he can raise this flop a fair amount of the time.
I put him on kq when he called my 4 bet of the flop, I need to stop doing this, especially when im running bad. I think I was just looking for a reason to call and boost my roll if im right.

I wanna pitch into this post.

Partially to motivate myself to get my lazy ass into action.

I have current bankroll of 550$ and I play 25NL so I'll set my goal for march to reach BR of 750$ and be able to take my first stab at 50NL (I've made it very clear for myself that I shall not try 50NL until I have over 750$ and when I drop below that line, I'll grind at 25NL again)

And I think it's a big goal to grind 200$ for myself since my best month has been +150$ so far but then again I only play a night here or a night there. Maybe if I get decent amount of hands I'll do alright.

Ouch took 1 BI shot at NL5 ($4) and got pummeled. Got it all in with an OESD and FD. He had a set and it held.

Ended up having to play a bunch of 2$ sup turbos, but made the next vip tier. With a few minutes to spare. Oh yeah took down like 5 of them and ran the br to just over $100. oops.

1 bi's nothing man, 4 bi shots at a minimum for me purely b/c of how you lost your shot taking money! Hell, 4 bi's is nothing! But at least it gives me a chance to outrun variance lol

3pidemic - have you got the time in the starsw lobby set to GMT? (western european time) cause that messes things up in PT3/HEM I know.

Grinding the last 20 or 30 vpp for a level is a BIASCH! Why does it always take for ever?
      03-01-2012 , 06:43 AM
5NL PLO was where I went if I needed to grind VPP's

Didn't put any volume last month and dropped back to bronzestar.

Not a great start to the year- but I'm just hampered with UNI work.

Micromillions will be fun - $0.11 rebuy will be the biggest crapshoot ever.

Any guys married with young kids in here?

I'm 28 and married with a 7yr old stepson and 2 year old daughter, things aint good with me and the wife atm as she thinks I play too much poker, and i dont think I play enough. In an effort to compromise I've thought of this schedule.

10.5 hrs per week over 52 weeks in a year = 20k hands per month for me @ 450 hands per hour, which is then 240k hands per year.

If i play a decent 5hr session on a sunday afternoon and then get a couple of 2hr sessions in during the evenings after work, then she gets my attention all of saturday, sunday morning/lunchtime and like 2 nights during the week.

This is fair right? And how is this poker volume wise? I think 240k hands per year is enough to give me a chance to make something of this in the future (the ultimate goal btw) I can fit in study and forum browsing at work so this 10hrs would be purely time at the tables.

What do u guys think, and in particular the married w/ kids ones, how does this match up to how much u play poker?

I also work a decent job like 40hrs per week so its not like I'm a bum who brings nothing in btw
      03-01-2012 , 07:01 AM
I'm married with 4 kids. I wait til they go to bed and the wife is settled in front of the tv before I play. Then what problems can she have? She can't demand that I watch tv with her!

oh, it helps very much if a) you dont bust (good BRM important here) and b) you withdraw some $ and treat her once in a while (so she feels the benefits
      03-01-2012 , 07:14 AM
I am married and have 8 month baby boy. Daddy's playtime starts when kid's asleep and wife and I don't have plans together. But I mostly play livegames and only try the online uNL.

I only stopped magic cause i'd done everything that could be done so was seeking new challenges. and poker is very similar so its an easy transition.
Were you a M:tG pro?! Who are you?
      03-01-2012 , 07:54 AM
Married with kids too, but mostly play when they are in bed.
I sit on the laptop most evenings anyway, so wife hardly notices.

No mate, not pro. I made it onto the tour but quickly realised that the only guaranteed way to make money was buying and selling magic cards - So I set up Cutting Edge Cards and worked the GP's, Pro Tour, Worlds for like 10 years My name is Chad LDO ! Who are you? who do you know?

Also, someone posted graph for feb on last thread and asked if anyone else had some..Here are mine for 5nl and 10nl:

Any of you reach silver star on Stars playing 5nl? I'm curious as how many hands I'll have to plug in, did 1500 the other night an averaged at around 0.012 vpp ph which would mean I'll need to do roughly 2000 hands a day everyday to reach silver star! With work and IRL commitments that's a fair amount. I am only 4 tabling though. Not overly keen on 6 tabling until I'm back upto 25nl where I will stay for a while until im crushing it.
      03-01-2012 , 10:09 AM
This downswing is crushing me 7.5BI downswing so far..losing a lot of confidence..

Invested in poker tracker to improve my reads which has helped me to locate the regs.

I'm going to quit 888 Going to transfer my roll from there to WPT on PartyPoker network and start earning strategy points on PokerStrategy. Need to get back into studying the game big time.

This made me laugh. I mussed be pretty pu55y whipped then lol.

I play around her most of the time. I would be single otherwise lol.
I ended up getting her hooked on poker, its been twice the challenge since then, now I have to try and not tilt off my bankroll whicle trying to get my misses to learn from my mistakes so we dont both go broke.
But It seems as though sometimes you just need to learn for yourself.

Nice graphs, chad, especially the second one, very consistent.

I have made silver star at 5nl with about 30k hands in a month fairly easily.

cheers bud, I heard the average is like 0.02 ph which would mean I'd need about 32k. THE GRIND IS OOOON! 1st month back playing so March will be my first full month. Pray for run good!

Are there decent benefits from being silver star on Pokerstars?
