Hello,

This is my first post. Happy to be here with you all!

My biggest problem is I end up playing well (earning money in a MTTs), or I run badly and I end up going to $20 buyin MTTs or STTS and get crushed playing too aggressively.

I struggle with my bankroll management. I get a $100 card, get some profits like $30 to $100 then end up running it into the ground in less than a week.

Any way I can restrict myself from $20 buyin tournaments and up?

I'm not Phil Ivey or anything yet but I had 2 if not 3 $50+ days in a row early september and a couple $100 - $299 wins and lost it all playing $20 6-Max STTs in one day....

Here's my stats if anyone cares or has any feedback.

I am Mallot1 on PartyPoker and BorgataPokerGuy on Borgata Poker and play in NJ.

You seem to know the issue .. you just need to conjure up the discipline to correct it.

'Running bad' is part of poker, accept it or get out .. or just accept that poker is a video game that sometimes offers additional credits.

You need to find out if you are playing differently or just running bad. You've already mentioned two major poker 'problems' .. moving up and playing too aggressive.

There are no magic answers here .. no pill you can take .. but there's plenty of information and advice about helping you recognizing the trap spots.

Poker is a lot about being self-aware and 'spot' aware .. if you can constantly improve both then there will be more smiles .. GL

It seems to me like you aren’t fully grasping the role of variance in poker. It’s difficult to grasp because it’s so damn non humane.

There is little correlation between “playing well” and earning money in a small sample of MTTs.

Id suggest investing in 1 on 1 coaching to get a trained pair of eyes on your pain points. Much of getting good at this game is solely understanding how the game works.

Failing to get coaching will result in you continuing to bash your head on a brick wall. It’s a strategy tht works but it comes with a lot if unnecessary stress.

Also, bank roll rise you will go broke 100% of the time if you are firing $20 entries off a $100 br.

$20 6-Max STTs are very tough for about 98 percent of players I think.

I would wanna have like 40'000+ MTTs (roughly $1-$10 stake) played, and a $30'000+ profit before feeling like I am +EV at $20 6-Max STTs. Don't mean to be results based, but just for the sake of some form of generalisation that helps the answer. Just the experience of that volume of games, and ability to show you can beat that level consistently.

Of course there are people who study multiple hours each day, and/or specialise, but still as a gauge of experience and skill needed. $20 6-Max STTs are no joke.
And yeah, I would probably want a bankroll of about $1000 for them.

Why would you want an absolute ton of volume at an unrelated game? STTs play COMPLETELY different to MTTs

It's still a related skill, and more so with regards to - Games Played: 401 and Join Date: Aug 2022

At that amount of MTTs played, I would say any volume in any holdem variant SnG, MTT, Cash would be beneficial and very related skill.

It's like, sure a ton of Halo experience wont make you a good Call Of Duty player at the 1000+ hours played level.
But if you haven't played much Halo OR Call of Duty, playing either one of them will increase your skill in the other (i.e - at the 0-50 hours played level)

Just to put the perspective of how much experience you would want in general.
This should add to discourage him from doing this when tilting, he can remind himself just how much experience he hasn't yet had.
