I am currently working with a student who is starting from $10 BR. Basically have him grinding out $0.50 and $0.25 MTTs. I also had him trying out DONs for $1.15 and I think early on he got up to around $20 doing this. Right now, after a downswing, he's at like $13.50ish. It is a ridiculously tough grind and IMO, can kill you with a hard enough downswing.

I personally use these rules(Kinda semi-taken from Ferguson's approach to $0 to $10k for charity he did on FTP):

MTT Buyin: No more than 2% BR.
SNG Buyin: No more than 5% BR.
Cash Buyin: No more than 5% BR, when you hit 10% you leave when before next blind posts for you.

This is like hardcore BR protection and really limits risk of ruin but it has worked for me, and 2 others.
Those that I have attempted to help that haven't used this have busted. I have people ask me how I succeed so well and give me crap about my ambition to live off poker and it all just keeps coming back to those guidelines. I formed basically the same guidelines before I read Ferguson's article.

As for $200 being enough to buyin at NL50($0.25/$0.50) I really think is drastically not a good idea. I mean seriously, 1 bad downswing and good bye. If you're playing 6max cash then $200 is absolutely not enough IMO.

MTTs are a great risk:reward ration if you can handle massive fields.
lmmfao at this being "hardcore" BR protection, this isn't even close to what is needed actually. try .5% for mtts, 1% for cash games under 400nl, and 2% for sngs with 27ppl and less, and you'll be fine. Dont use this, and swongs can and will kill you.

Ok, off to nit it up for an hour or so. Please to be donating if you see me.

G
lol..nope not at all.

They started it a month ago or so. The rake is like 6.5% or something now, so its still a bit higher (unless you have rakeback) but its much better. They have both 2nl and 5nl, both with 100bb max buyin (along with the deep tables that are 200bb max.)

and pleased to be having you back

grats to you sir

I'm 15 to 75 since last thursday (played about 7k hands)

Practicing safe bankrolling, except i don't get up from the table if i hit 10% of my bankroll...If the table is soft enough for me to double up it's soft enough for me to win more money at.

I am slumming the 2nl games, playing 9 tables now stacked. I find it helps me play tight and tilt free when I cant actually see what happens at the end of the hand (like when i lost 1.5 BI tonight AA vs his KK). Didn't even notice until i looked at PT

jkuesta and starrduster are micro players at Stars. Were they sitting at your table?

I started with $25 at the beginning of the year, ran it up to almost $400 with an additional reload of $50 for the bonus on stars, ($12 is $12 right). Then I had to withdraw about $200 for some car issues and after that I have been on a disgusting down swing. After losing $30 bucks last night to some horrible beats. (AA lost to KK when a K fell, AA lost to 88 when 4 cards to the straight fail, and a flopped nut straight lost to a full boat) I have about $125 left. Currently playing 5nl 6 tabling, I hope my luck changes quick or I will be at 2nl again. Gets really frustrating but hey that is poker.

I hear ya Pokerloser. I started back in September with $20, went down to $12. I'd played 2/4 limit until I hit $40, then played 2NL until I reached about $300. I've gone back and forth between 2NL, 5NL, and 10NL, dropping back down to 2NL after a bad swing (seems to be happening alot of late). I'm at $755, still playing 2NL all full ring, but have been at this level for a couple of weeks, breaking even as I can't seem to avoid the bad beats when moving up.

Did you read the Durrrr article in Bluff? That guy built millions from $14.

GL all.
I looked at your chart, it took you over 100,000 hands to win $900.00. How long of a period of time did it take to get 100,000?

326 hours according to pokertracker for 1090$ profit. Keep in mind this was build from a tiny bankroll using BRM. There are definitely faster ways to do it but I didn't want to have to reload.

Today: Mostly NL25, 100 hands of NL100 after I followed a fish up to there. You can see the red line swing after a guy didn't call the river shove after putting 60% of his stack in..

Then decided to 10-15 table NL25 and started bleeding Non-SD but made up for it with SD winnings... Gotta work on my multitabling.

lol wtf. I feel like I was hit by a semi on full tilt today.

Took a 1 table stab at 5nl, first hand aipf bvb 1010 vs AQ, QQQ flop.. gg me.

2.25 27 man turbo, QQ v AK v A8s aipf (yes, A8, after I raised utg, and utg+1 3bet..A8s flat, I shoved, both call) A8s obv gets there..gg me

3.80 super turbo.. managed to take 2nd in, after 3rd place got there 4 times vs me, little bastard.. and the winner went runner runner trips vs my top top.

So back at $35 on ftp atm... goal is to grind to $65ish so i can play 5nl and $2 sngs comfortable...then at 80ish, start throwing in 3.30 90man ko's and the occasional small $2 mtt.

I think I was up around 975 or in 7 weeks, which was right before I had to stop playing and prepare for my relocation- then I had some fun playing in Vegas (mandatory pitstop) with it when I moved from California to MN this time last year.

I tried again last summer, but with the new job and all of the stuff going on with the new relocation, never really managed to put in any hands, and my head just wasn't in it.

Since then, I've pretty much had a haiatus for 7 months at least, but now on weekends at least I'll be able to play for a couple of hours each day. It'll be much slower, but I have no reason to doubt repeating a run up is completely do-able.

I hear ya on the semitruck comment. I played a few hours last night. The first while I was awake and won 10 bucks. Towards the end I was very tired and donated it back.

How could I forget how bad I play when I'm tired? Oh well, all told the damage was only 58 cents, so it was a cheap lesson learned anyway. It probably would have helped not to have the radio on and talk on the phone, too.

It'll get better.

Running bad or playing bad, down to about $60 some odd. Goofed around on the 5 card draw tables which cost me some and entered a few 1$ sngs which I didn't cash in.

I have had my best success at $0.25 sngs (cashed in about 5/6) and the 5c/10c limit tables. The $1 sngs have been no glory so far, and I'm probably off them until my roll is a little healthier. I have also struggled some at the 1c/2c no limit tables - my no limit game was honed live, and is based upon getting to as many flops as cheaply as possible with decent hands in position. I have been told that online its better to be aggressively raising preflop, and have been struggling some with this adaptation. I'm still trying to find my game.

I've been learning online play at the .05/.10 LHE tables, doing better than I expected so far. Had my initial $50 up to $68 two days ago after about 3.5k hands. (went on a bit of a downswing last night, but still doing well.) I tried the .01/.02 NL tables for a day and got creamed so am back to the LHE and enjoying the learning process. Dunno if I'm built for SnG play, will try a few once I've gotten another 5k hands in or so.

what goes up must come down I guess. Made a pretty easy shove with 66 on a 227 board, had k8 snap call me..turn 8. 3 hands later i raise 1010, 10JK flop.. get it all in vs KJ..turn J. At 30ish on ftp.

lol 5draw kills my BR too: I really don't understand why I even bother playing it online, as its (IMO) a game that just doesn't translate online like flop/stud games.

I'm up to 80 today. Had a mini downswing, followed by a mini upswing to let me break even tonight.

After moving up to 5nl I'm up about 20$, I was a bit worried, since I've tried 5nl twice before, and not done to well, so hopefully this keeps up.
