Well, I started on a freeroll and got 1 dollar. from there I went into 2 tourneys, lost them both and was down to 25 cents. I went to 2-4 cent and got up to 5 dollars, then went into a 1 dollar SNG and won it for 10 buks, which got me to about 15. since then I have been grinding NL2 and am up to 38.44 ATM.

Welcome ZengZang, good luck to you and I might just join you. Hopefully I will be able to start with a little more than that tho.

anyhow, building a bankroll from that amount are you guys going to concentrate on NL micros and sngs.
the reason I ask is that I have been grinding at .2/.4 LIMIT and it seems kinda slowgoing.

I would play 2NL. 10 buyins should be enough there

Lol, I CAN IMAGINE. Actually, I can't. If you can play NL, I'd suggest doing it atleast until you have a br for .25/.50 Limit ($200).

When I was at 25 cents I got that up 4 dollars in one session in about 600 hands. It is a major grind. That's why I tried a i dollar 3 table SNG. Luckily I won it. After that once I started in 2NL it took me about 1500 hands and now I'm at 44.52.But yeh, the 2-4 cent games were such a grind. I had to try that SNG.

I finished tonight's session at $52.36. I started the day with about $25. Not a bad day.

I tried $25 start 4 times, all failures.

I put in $100, I haven't looked back.

I am currently working with a student who is starting from $10 BR. Basically have him grinding out $0.50 and $0.25 MTTs. I also had him trying out DONs for $1.15 and I think early on he got up to around $20 doing this. Right now, after a downswing, he's at like $13.50ish. It is a ridiculously tough grind and IMO, can kill you with a hard enough downswing.

I personally use these rules(Kinda semi-taken from Ferguson's approach to $0 to $10k for charity he did on FTP):

MTT Buyin: No more than 2% BR.
SNG Buyin: No more than 5% BR.
Cash Buyin: No more than 5% BR, when you hit 10% you leave when before next blind posts for you.

This is like hardcore BR protection and really limits risk of ruin but it has worked for me, and 2 others. Those that I have attempted to help that haven't used this have busted. I have people ask me how I succeed so well and give me crap about my ambition to live off poker and it all just keeps coming back to those guidelines. I formed basically the same guidelines before I read Ferguson's article.

As for $200 being enough to buyin at NL50($0.25/$0.50) I really think is drastically not a good idea. I mean seriously, 1 bad downswing and good bye. If you're playing 6max cash then $200 is absolutely not enough IMO.

MTTs are a great risk:reward ration if you can handle massive fields.

They are referring to minbet holdem (ie flinging poo.)

Good luck in your quest

I started (after reading the Chris Ferguson entry in pokerplayer) and was going to start with nothing but just havent got the time. So i started with $50 trying to keep to his same rules and the bank balance now stands at $600. Just another $100 and i can finially move up to the new level of $0.50 / $1 tables. It does take a while but i would agree with most but i make sure that 5% of my bankroll is also about 30-35 BB for the limit im playing otherwise you find yourself getting pushed around unless you hit an early hand.

Why don't you guys go collect cans for a weekend and then deposit a little bit more? Serious question not a joke.

I built my $200 BR from $10, it's not really difficult when you can beat 2NL..

Good luck though.

You guys should stop being so damn stingy. If you were that determined and confident then you'd put more of your own money on the line.

Hi, First post on here, I have deposited quite a few times over the past 12 months and cashed for a little over 3k in a MTT but cashed that out straight away which keeps leaving me stuck at the micros. I am going to try the same as you and turn $20 into hopefully something a bit more respectable.

Here is a screenshot of my balacne as it stands now:

I plan to start off playing 1c/2c NLHE until I reach $52.50 then I will switch to $1.75 18 seater Turbos and take it from there.

Good Luck to everyone who is doing this and take no notice of people who berate you, everyone has to start somewhere.

just recently started with 20 and got up to 300 after a few weeks, but took a huge hit and only able to cash out 100+. I finally went insane from the ridiculously tedious grind.
Gonna use my FPPs to get some tourny dollars now and then start over.

I turned 20 into 2 grand back in October.

It can be done, just remember however small the stakes you play for, everytime you make progress your that much closer to having enough money to play higher.

It feels great to have 2,000 when u start with 20.

And obviously 2G is nothing, plenty of people who started with less than 100 now have 6 figure rolls.

Keep your eyes on the prize and remember play well or don't play. Use 5% rules and ****. And stay off tilt. You'll get there ace.......

Alot of the time I'm completely insane by the time I do and make mistakes once I have more.

Just been talking to someone who said scrap 1c/2c as I would make more money playing the $1.75 18 seaters, he said I would be fine with just $20 which seems a tad too aggressive for me but I gave it a shot and fired up 2 $1.75's and came 4th and 2nd so a good start. I think I wil stick to SNG's to try and build up my bankroll. I will now play $1.75's until I hit around the $100 mark then I will move to the $3.40 18 seaters and maybe mix in some $3.25 45 seaters.

On a side note, there are 70 FPP 10man satellites to the Sunday Two Hundred Grand which, if you unregister for, give you 11 tournament dollars, which you can trade on here for 10+ real dollars.

Because some of us are totally new to Poker and need to start grinding from the penny arcades to prove that we can earn our way up. I started with $25 and built it to $1k in 4-5months not because I wanted to earn it, but because I literally did not know how to play poker. I would be min reraising with Aces and stuff like that and through all the grind, I did earn my worth. Unfortunately I had to pay my bills so I withdrew it all and than had $20 left on Pokerstars and I decided that I wanted more than what STTs could give me and I knew cash was a dangerous monster. With $20 and a grind, I built it to almost $1k in a month. I realized how slow FR is earning wise in comparison to 6max so I had to start over again so that when I am playing 100NL, that I am ready to play at these stakes and not that I got here by some mistake of a hot streak.

So at the beginning of this month, I started grinding 10NL with $80 and now I'm back at 25NL and I know variance can hit me but I know I can beat 25NL. (I don't practice much bankroll management under 25NL)
