4betting JJ is very standard as the new biggest thing in HU is flatting 4 bets (God knows why ). Its generally 4bet fold though.

YES. I 4bet J7o or some trash, and the ****** flatted my 4bet, flop is Kxx dry, I was like, you've never got AK here, so I bet and after he tank called I double barrel shoved 150+ deep.

Self/outlevelled so hard it hurts. I am terrible a HU obv.

4b/folding JJ is significantly worse than calling imo.

Thats only the case in 6max or less then ~150deep when 4bet/folding is turning JJ into a bluff. When you're 200 deep 4 betting JJ will get called by suited connectors/broadways/lower pp's which will stack off light/spazz on the flop. (this is versus fish ofc, against the regs these days flatting is definitely best, 4bet/calling might even be good.)
04-22-2009 , 05:59 PM
3bet/folding AQ isn't terrible if you expect villain to call with worse, same with JJ.... imo... especially if you don't expect villain to 5bet bluff, but call 4bets lightish, being the fish they are... Still I don't mind just flatting the 3bet with JJ regardless, but I don't think 4bet/folding is terrrible when deep and you've got a dynamic going.

That said I'm probably the worst at HU here, so whatevs.

I was assuming some skill on the opponent's part. Fish are easy to play against. If someone is going to call as wide as you said you obv never 4b bluff and do it really wide for value.

I know raising with KJs after a limper may not be a great strategy. But it worked out pretty well this time around, lol

I tend not to like raising hands like KJs against a few raisers at the micros. Mainly cause i tend to suck post flop at the minute and never really know where i am. So they just tend to get me in a lot of trouble.

Am pretty happy with things at the minute though (for a change) Things have been looking up a bit both in RL and as far as poker goes. Finally have a positive BB/100 for NL2 after 5,673 hands (only 2.71 BB/100 but it's still positive) haven't played any SnG's/MTT's for a while but currently have an overall ROI of 69.11%. All this is based on my stats since i cashed out all but $30.70 at the start of the year, then re-started again a little into march. Roll currently sits at ~$95 including T$. So am pretty happy with things at the minute

Because it's 2nl, I'll cut you a little slack. This will be standard when you get a bit higher.

2nl is about VALUETOWN, as everyone says. You hit a hand and you bet it relentlessly, as is the typical advice. KJ is a much more speculative hand where pot-control is used much more often. Thus almost 'against' the 2nl strat.

Anyway, you'll learn that raising limpers is just as standard as stealing the blinds. And KJ is definitely good enough to do both.

Gotta love that villain though. 3betting that wide and calling you down with ace high.

luckily he was the second of the night. Put me up 2 BI's for the night which is all good.

Did have a slightly different dilemma tonight aswell though. Every week i play in a pub poker league at my local. I'm good friends with everyone involved. But i'm starting to get the feeling everyone else is getting a little annoyed with me. For the last 7 weeks i've come 2nd 5 times and won once. I won again today, and also one the second game we had going on afterwards. Now i don't like feeling bad for doing well at something (it doesn't happen often) but i don't want to piss off my mates aswell. Would it be worth forfeiting a week so as not to piss them off. Or should i continue as i have done? i'm kind of torn between going to the regional finals and pissing my mates off. What would you do in this situation?

You guys playing competitively to win something?

If so, keep winning, its a competition.

If not, and they're actually getting mad cause you're winning.... well, first of all thats kinda bull****. But maybe they believe that poker is pure luck and don't understand you can actually get better. In that case, enlighten them a little bit.

As for forfeiting, seems like a dumb idea. You're probably running fairly well on top of being better than them. They should suck out and knock you out on occasion :P

It's part of a league where the top 3 finishers for the season go on to the regional finals. Then i think from there you go onto a national final. Most people who play seem to play for fun while having a few pints, and a lot of them don't seem to realise that there is actually some skill involved. Basically they're the 'I can't win if i don't see the flop.....so i'll make sure i see every flop' kind of players. It makes it fairly easy to finish in a decent position each week.

As for enlightening them, i've tried but they still don't see to want to listen to any kind of reason. I guess its a good thing for me though. Always nice to go to the pub with £30 have 5 or 6 pints and come home with £40
