Hello. I have been a rec poker player for the last 5 years(started with 25 and after lots of grinding turned it into 1298) (mostly micro and a few mid-stakes tournaments).

Due to recent events I have nothing to do until april 2021 and I really want to try to play poker for a living.

I like the spin and go format the most. But i am clueless as how I should approach the game and how i can study effectively. Finding content is really hard.

So my bankroll is 1298 and my goal is to make 1000 $ on average a month (that would be enough to cover my living expenses)

Any advice as how I can start. or where i can find a coach?

Spin and goes are probably the worst format you could choose unfortunately. They're extremely high variance due to how much luck is involved in hitting the big payouts. IMO cash is the best but MTTs or regular SnGs would still be much better than Spins.

Are you going to be okay if you go bust? That is a pretty likely outcome. There's an immense amount of pressure to be in a place where you need to make $1k/month on a $1300 bankroll, doing something you've never done before (poker as a hobby isn't really the same). Aside from the psychological pressure it might not even be possible to make $1k/month in EV if you still need time to bring your skills up to par.

Coaches cost money and it doesn't seem like you have a lot, but yeah you should probably get one. There's a link to a few coaching subforums in the sidebar.

In april 2021 I have the option to go back to my old job until then i luckily have more than enough saved up to sustain myself without any worries. So busting my bankroll is no problem. I tought that i basically have 5 months to go allin and try to make a living as a poker player. (As i kind of hate my old job). spin and goes is the format i enjoy the most i guess but maybe i should consider other options.

Anyway thanks alot for the reply you the man !!

Oh, if you're expenses are taken care of regardless of your poker results then that is much better. If you get a coach and take it seriously I think you could have a real shot. You can also get free advice in this forum, just remember that a lot of the posters are also learning and the advice you get isn't always going to be top tier, although there are some very good posters as well.

Do you have database software like Pokertracker? It's pretty much a must have. I'd also download Equilab if you don't have it already which is very good software considering it's $0 price tag. Something like GTO+ would be pretty useful software for cash games and ICMizer for sit&goes/late stage tournies, but those cost and I'm not sure they're essential right now. You should definitely look into them or similar software at some point though.

i dont know if you tried cash games but you should first get a tracker if you havent, read the book grinders manual twice so you will have an understanding why you are doing what you are doing and start grinding the 5nl so you see how you are doing!! when you can beat the 5nl or 10nl for a reasonable bb/100 you can find sites with fishier players because pokerstars is very hard player pool
