25% of the field paid and a mincash is 225? What price are the satties and how soft is the tournament?

SN is unforeseeable for me unless I move up to at least 100NL.

Played in a $1 rebuy earlier. This was my exit hand about 40 places from the money in a field of 760-odd I think. I'm really unsure about shipping it in on the flop but with 2 overs to the board and straight and flush draws I felt I had the villain reasonably covered if I did get called.

I wouldn't have had much behind if I went for a standard cbet of 1/2-2/3 pot which is half my thinking behind shoving and it was getting to the point in the tournament where picking up chips by any means is the way to go as the money bubble approached, especially without showdown.

Is it a case of me just running into the wrong hand or did I really butcher this?

Okay, you lack basic tournament (and shortstack theory). Your 3b is far too big. 2x is about right. This gives you more postflop playability. If you are going to make it bigger you want it even bigger so there's a psb behind rather than slightly over.

As played, flop is fine. You don't have a made hand and you have a lot of fold equity (and the gap concept is even more important in ICM spots), and you're a favourite against most made hands. QJ probably calls.

Yeah looking back I did make my 3 bet too big. Any sense of theory of math went out the window, I was aiming to get both sets of chips in the middle by whatever method I felt was best at that time.

I only do a handful of tournaments a week, and I haven't been playing long, so I really don't know too much tournament theory other than play tight early on and slowly open up as the blinds get bigger, abuse bubbles, and take advantage of scared/dead money.

    1500fpp for goldstar.

The field is very mixed. There are a bunch of MTT/SNG beasts, but afaict the majority of the field are cash game players like me. Some of the SNs playing are pretty dreadful tbh. Certainly for someone who rates their own MTT game, its probably one of the most +EV tourneys going I would think.

Both are marginal, but I don't mind either of them. If I had to pick one to check behind it would probably be hand 1.

Was only capable of playing the last part of May. Only NL 2 deep stack.
Pretty small sample but hopefully I can play a lot this month.

^^CO v BB, I'd much rather 4b AA pre to protect my 4betting range. This is only really different vs tight 3bettors of my UTG or MP open, in which case I don't have a 4bet range when HU, so there's nothing to protect.

Ok, but BTN v BB/SB you do call 3bets ? And lol you already have more posts with your second account then I have with mine

Yeah, I do, but generally 3bet ranges are wide enough that you don't need to protect your calling range so much, but 4bet/5bet ranges are normally narrower so they need more protection.

Vs an unknown restealing 100bb deep, my typical calling range would look something like:

AQ-AT, KQ, any other suited broadway, T9s-76s, 77-JJ. I will call much wider if villain is restealing more than 14% over a decent sample, and also 4b light much more, and probably 4b/call AQ, JJ-TT for value.
          06-02-2013 , 03:58 PM
That's actually pretty wide compared to my range, but I'm also not really strong in 3bet pots and need a lot of practice still, that's why I like to 4bet 77-JJ in those situations
          06-02-2013 , 04:10 PM
Pff just got this hand, who even calls 4bets OOP ?

c-bet is too big in that 4-bet pot IMO.

Hmm Villain had only like 4$ left, so with this bet he had basically an all-in or fold decision
            06-02-2013 , 04:46 PM
yeah, and villain would be put in a similar position if you bet smaller. Think about how small you can bet and still get all the money in by the river. So basically you can bet smaller and still put the same amount of pressure on villian. You could get away with betting as low as $1 and save yourself a lot of money when he calls your bluff. And you aren't losing value if you have a hand like AK as you will still be able to get the money in on the river.
