yeah i have a classical background although i dont actively practice sight reading apart from just picking up themes on lead sheets

Its funny that it took me almost 6 years to finally realize that improvisation has everything to do with what you hear and very little with anything you could study. The knowledge of chords and scales and modes and progressions etc is obv very essential, but make sure you are using that in a creative way once you start to get it down. Yeah thats one of the main things i have started doing is trying to play what i here and sing it (even though im an awful singer but that is kinda irrelevant)

I've been listening to Anouar Brahem a lot lately. He's a very diverse Oud player. His album Thimar with dave holland and john surman is insane good...u must check it out.

I love pat metheny too obv...some of his stuff more than others. I've also been listening to keith jarrett a lot as well gerry mulligan's stuff with chet baker.
Nice. yeah main thing i listen to of pat is bright size life i love that track. (me and my mate call it pat meth. as in "ill be 10mins bro just gotta have a hit of pat meth")

On a serious note you should focus on tilt control and not being results oriented - I think it's a great subject for a psych essay.

This would probably give you all you need if you bought it.
