Instant response with authorities is always to deny, deny, deny.

When I was arrested, they asked us if we had any marijuana in the car, and we both, very sweetly go, 'noooo', and one of the troopers ***** his head at us and goes, "guys?".

After the initial response of 'lie to them', it turns out wdwf's response is to sing like a canary, and then my car was turned into a drug dog training center and that was pretty interesting, I guess.

But all of the guys at the border station were cool, and told us that since we cooperated fully and didn't give them any hassle and let them use the car for the dogs for awhile, we'd get off pretty easy.

Moral of the story: LEAVE THE #*&@ SHIRTS AT HOME.

or just not lie to them maybe
07-04-2011 , 12:14 PM
Nah. Pretty sure my story had a lot more to do with not bringing the shirts than the lying...
07-04-2011 , 12:20 PM
Then just bring shirts not made out of marijuana next time

No such thing as a "felony" in Canada.

You'd probably be looking at prosecution under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act rather than the Customs Act.

Quote:
16. (1) A person who makes an application must answer truthfully all questions put to them for the purpose of the examination and must produce a visa and all relevant evidence and documents that the officer reasonably requires.
Quote:
124. (1) Every person commits an offence who

(a) contravenes a provision of this Act for which a penalty is not specifically provided or fails to comply with a condition or obligation imposed under this Act;
Quote:
125. A person who commits an offence under subsection 124(1) is liable

(a) on conviction on indictment, to a fine of not more than $50,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than two years, or to both; or

(b) on summary conviction, to a fine of not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both.

Most countries don't appreciate undocumented workers sneaking in across their border under the guise of tourism.

It is interesting that they went right to "Are you a poker player?". Must actually be a wave of refugees coming North...

This.

They instanstly hassle you because you're not allowed to hold a job/make money when on a visitor visa which woulda been problem #1.

And yea, he said directly to me "Since Black Friday, we've seen a lot of Americans coming up"....they were very educated

I shoulda just been up front and dealt with it, though thats not a guaranteed pass at all, especially with my financial situation.

I actually had a great 4th ... went to Springfield, NY parade, that claims to be the 2nd longest running parade in the US. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...02869656429756 ... it was exactly what you'd expect for a small town parade (and when I say small town, if you blink, you'd miss it) and was fabulous for it. High school bands that were mostly out of tune, and marching fire depts who all seemed to have one person who couldn't march in step ... followed by amazing BBQ chicken ... and ended the day with a sauna and skinny dipping in the pond with Mrs Bogus ...

You could see history that way, your thinking may be one dimensional but it is not totally wrong. Of course it is interesting that the North American colonies were not alone in eventually deciding they could run their own countries without British "help". Sands of time and all that.

Glad you had a nice fourth. I think we forgave the 1812-1814 insult and also went a long way toward making amends for the 18th century in the 1940's don't you? Nice you can be here. The British are great people.

For whatever reason, the "1812-1814 insult" was never mentioned in any history class when I was at school. (As I recall we mostly did Tudor, Henry VIII kinda stuff)

Edit: and the popular jokes all mention that the US were late to the fight in both WW1 and WW2

Yeah, they were the insurgents™ and terrorists™ of their day, otoh the British Empire was not exactly a universal force for good ...
