How profitable is 1/2 or 2/4 at 5% uncapped rake? How profitable is 1/2 or 2/4 at 5% uncapped rake?

I'm currently living somewhere where the only casino in town has 2 different stakes, equivalent to 1/2 and 2/4 USD. Rake is 5% uncapped in both. Both games are as soft as they come outside of home games.

Is this worth it if my main goal is profit, or would I be better off focusing on online?

I'm currently slightly profitable online, making around 500 USD a month in microstakes, but I'm trying to raise that amount.

Any uncapped rake structure is definitely bad, but if the games are very soft this should still be beatable. Whether or not you should focus on online or playing this game depends on how soft the game is and the site(s) you have access to.

slightly? playing "microstakes" with a winrate of $500 USD/month seems better than slightly.

Move up in stakes online and continue to crush seems like the best strat to me.

the uncapped rake is very bad, but there are some adjustments you can make to acommodate for such rake structure:
- buy in relatively short and don't play long sessions (you will typically get deep eventually if you play for long)
- play very, very tight pre
- be very aggresive in terms of protection, you want to take pots without showdown even if inducing a bluff might be slightly more profitable pre-rake
- don't limp or flatcall pre, ever
