54s+ are playable in EP. Because there are only 28 combo's of them (2%) and they hit (on the flop) two pair or better 5,6% and decent draw like oesd/dbb and flush draw almost 20%.
So you open them from early and if the flop comes painted you just c-bet. If the flop comes low you got them.

Rake is bigger at lower stakes yeah, but if opening a hand is even slightly +ev after rake you should still do it.

In terms of bb/100 it's much bigger at the micros. At 10NL I paid 11bb/100; at 100NL I pay 6.5bb/100. This is because you hit the rake cap much less often.
