I have a stupid phone question.

if i have a 2G sim card can i stick that in a smartphone and be able to do all the data related stuff like email, facebook AND fulltilt poker mobile? (assuming the phone is capable of all this...and the one i want to get is capable afaik)

if so, will it be laggy? (Im not fussed too much about speed but if its so slow that im going to want to pull my hair out then i do not want)

Can't you get a new SIM card ??? I do the phones for our company, and all I have to do is call at&t and they send me them for free.

my current sim card is ten years old. seriously.

yes they can send me a new sim card. i just need to make it clear that i want to port everything to the new card without any changes. so even if i have to do that, i can.

i found this out by calling up and asking cust support but the guy (they guy seemed to know what he was talking about) said that 1 in a million sim cards these day are 2G so I should just get the phone and buy it and if that does work then call them up and they'll send me a new sim card.....the only reason i ask this is because i have a great grandfathered plan that isnt on their system anymore so i cant change the plan. the guy even told me to make sure i am very careful and dilligent if i need to port my plan to the new card that i do it without changes so i dont lose the plan.

oh and i just got a bit burned by spoilers but no harm done...the guys sitting next to me at work happened to catch the bottom of pop my cherry girl in the post above my prev one. fortunately it wasnt my team lead....although i wouldnt be silly enough to open this thread when she's around

I know what you mean. We have a great plan that works for our company. We have about 40 seasonal retail locations, and to keep in-touch we get each location a cell phone. We still have a contract that allows us to cancel the service without early termination fees, so each April/May we get 40+ free phones, and then in Sept/Oct we cancel them all

When, as inevitably happens, phones get stolen, I just grab one of my stock pile of SIM cards, stick it in one of the phones left over from last year, and a quick phone call to at&t to xfer service and I send the replacement phone to the store. And if I'm running low on SIM cards I just ask for more and they send them to me

yep, im pretty familiar with whirlpool but i mostly just lurk there....i post enough on 2+2 as it is...if i start to inhabit another forum i'll have even less free time.

they do have a couple of really good info threads on the phone and imo whirlpool is to australia technical type stuff as 2+2 is to poker if ya know what i mean.

before my landlord decided to help himself to my bits of kit I had an old Samsung which I used as a CDMA modem for the laptop when the broadband went down, a HTC Magic Android and a Rooted HTC Desire. I shipped between an ancient orange, vodafone, t-mobile and even thai PAYG sims, at least one of them was getting on for about 7-8 years old and had no troubles in doing all the things you asked on the rooted android or the Magic, and could multi table and browse through the Samsung on even the oldest of SIMS so I see no reason why yours wouldn't either but worst comes to worse put your request for a new SIM to your provider in writing rather than on the phone, at least that way you have a recourse rather than some gimps say so on the end of a telephone line.
