Do you have stats or records of your previous play? Playing with 9 buy-ins, it wouldn't take much of a bad run to wipe you out entirely. Here is a simple ROR calculator that you can play around with, and I'd read more on the subject of risk of ruin. Based on your play style and the tables you play at, it may be advantageous to buy in short (and probably is in your case if you insist on playing with $2700). Your strategy would entail buying in short, even for as little as $100-$150, and playing very tight pre and looking to double up through opponents who watch too much tournament poker on TV and like to call all-ins pre with 88 in cash games.
I'm not real familiar with ss style, but I"m sure someone will come along who can give you better pointers.
