Getting Back To The Game Getting Back To The Game

Greetings everyone,
I played a lot of poker 10-15yrs ago, mostly MTT’s with $50-$200 buy-in’s.
Been away from the game a long time, wanna start playing again and take it seriously, but I feel as though I’m starting at square one again.
Interested only in live MTT’s. I’m not much of a computer guy, more of a book guy. I read the original Harrington books way back when, are there any books that could help me compete in today’s game or are the HOH books still relevant for MTT play in 2021?

Thank you!

I think most of the best starter and intermediate level mtt content is in video form these days (upswing, rye, rio's ftgu, learnpropoker) unfortunately. If you really want to dive in the deep end, Modern Poker Theory is probably the best poker book ever written but it's quite dense and advanced and would likely be a bit overwhelming.

I have heard good things about the Andrew Brokos "Play Optimal Poker" books in that they are not too advanced but still delve into modern poker ideas, so if you're really attached to books I might start with PoP and then move on to MPT once you feel like you have a good grip on the fundamental ideas. I haven't read them myself but I've heard multiple good reviews from people I trust.

Hope this helps!

Hi Donkey22.

Modern poker theory is probably the best book to read. The touranment section of the book has alot of ideas that can be applied to today's game.
