Is this game supposed to be daily pain? Is this game supposed to be daily pain?

Hey,

I just curious about other peoples experiences.

I have been playing daily for more than a month now. MTTs. I lose SOOO much with but I consistently am bubble boy so it's not that I just am terrible at this game.

I have range, study, play consistently, practice bankroll management, etc.

It seems I finally get a cashing, and then lose most of it before the next cash which is either equal to what I lost since the last, or it's more (or sometimes less).

It's like a up and down with daily pain of bubbling out of satellites and tournaments.

I got a Sunday main event ticket in satellite, bubbled the tournament immediately after, busted out with KK vs 45 suited.

I know this is part of the game but dang, everyday????

I gotta start making some money here...

What's your experience? Just trying to make consistent profits somehow.

Mtts are especially like that. You basically lose until you have some big results if you're playing large field events. Cash games have less day to day variance, but there's still lots of losing built into the game and even strong winners will go through rough stretches for tens of thousands of hands.

How did you bubble the satty? What was your stack relative to the other stacks when you busted?

As others have posted MTTs do have tons of variance. However if you find you truly are bubbling out a lot, perhaps your strategy earlier on is flawed. Maybe you are bubbling because you are failing to take advantage of opportunities to chip up in earlier stages of the tourney. If you have one of the larger stacks by the time the bubble rolls around, you will be far less likely to bubble out. Obviously this may not be the case; I have no idea how you are playing. It might just be bad luck, but you still might want to consider your earlier play, especially if you often are short stacked near the bubble.

I would argue that consistently bubbling is more a sign that you have a lot of improving to do rather than that you are not terrible. Of course, you need a very large sample size in MTTs to really know anything.

I get into the top 3 spots usually. I end up towards the bottom by the bubble. What I've noticed in satellites is I usually only get 1 single time to get into the top spots. I then can lose it by playing 1 singular hand incorrectly. I end up towards the bottom of the field on the final tables.

Today I bubbled in 3rd. I was in first at this final table for the longest. Some guys consolidated and I ended up in last and short stacked. I shoved and got called unfortunately with my Kx .

I guess I need to work on my final table ranges.

This is a example of what I'm talking about:

Well, you have $130 in buyins and $207 in winnings, so I wouldn't be complaining too much. Strategy changes greatly at the pointy end of sattys, you may be getting into hands with other big stacks unnecessarily and not abusing the shorties enough.

if u only look at small portions of my play(not dollars. maybe a few thousand dollars profit over a few years), you may think i kinda suck:

but then i'd show u what happened previously:

then i got stuck in the doldrums:

then more madness:

hopefully after your next 1k tourneys, you're a much better player than u are now. i think im much better than at the beginning of that graph, and i hope to be even better after 1k more tourneys.

Welcome to pokurr! As Doyle would say, “It’s a hard way to make an easy living.”

So I ended up switching up my schedule again to play some different tournaments. I cut out the satellites except 1. Things are getting good again.

WHEN I POSTED:

NOW:

I had $564.84 when I posted.

I have earned $505.68 in the last 6 days almost double my roll. $405.68 if you don't count the $100 tourno ticket I got in a $10 satellite.

Thanks for your insight and words of encouragement guys.

Nice work. Sometimes correct play at or close to the bubble in sattys can be very counterintuitive. The more you ply and study, the easier it will get.
