Asking for advice about a friend who lived in Vegas for about a year and failed miserably. Lack of direction, work ethic and a total collapse of any self accountability. He spent more time watching Netflix than playing poker, which probably saved him money cause he was baaaaad.

He now has moved back to sin city after living in his dad's basement for the last 6 months meditating and praying to god for answers. He says he's ready to get serious about the grind this time. He has been back for a month and the grind, of course, has not started.

The question is should I hold an intervention for him or just let him figure it out through prayers to his God that poker ain't his thing? He likes McDonald's food so maybe steer him to a possible career in the fast food world? I dunno, just want what's best for him.

Nothing is going to dissuade him from the allure of easy money and no responsibilities. Tell him to let you what street corner on the strip he's working so you can say hello in a couple of years.

Are you in Vegas grinding? Setting a 'good' example? If not, how do you know that he's laying around?

Bankroll? Game preference? Tournament or Cash? Hard to give advice without other details ..

FWIW there's tons of 'low' stakes grinders in Vegas .. and it's very difficult to expect an unmotivated Player to succeed in that world for very long, especially if the life roll and poker roll are intermingled. GL

He has demons and I'm not in vegas to help him. He likes the booze and tranny prostitutes. I guess there is no hope for him.

Now he's being invited to dubious home games in the guise of a " holiday party" to take his easy money.

Ok, more bad news. Word on the street is my friend is playing 2/5 straddle games with known pros and is getting wrecked. Can I secretly get him on the no gambling list?

For someone not in Vegas you seem to have a pulse on what's going on ..

Unless you have some sort of legal influence, like being a (Brittany Spears Conservator) over this person I don't think you can get them banned.

All you can do is try to 'be there' for them without hovering too much and then get cut off, so to speak.

If you chose to go to the highest authority, being whomever is providing the funds then you risk losing a friend as well. GL

He has started a part time job now. That's a start for him. He already lost a side gig with great potential but that's how he rolls. I'm his best friend and know him well, I give him less than 6 months on new gig. I told him that and now he has shadow banned me.

Instead of talking with negative overtones why not give him an incentive to try and stick with it? Like you freeroll him somehow or find something else that he enjoys to do and 'reward' him. GL

What did he actually do to improve his poker and improve on his self destructing behave? Ask him to put a volume in online micro stakes (nl 5) and see how it goes first I'd say, than you could help him seeing some hands and have a better ideia if he should flip some burguers and keep grinding/studying while in micros, after he's good enough then he can make the move, no?

He claims to have coaching and has been playing the micros for the past year. He is still not a winner according to him, but has visions of mid steaks live by the summer. I'm thinking if you still cant beat micros after a year, maybe the poker is not for you. He won't listen.

He is slick and abuses people's help. Plays the nice, clueless guy to get away with putting in the minimum.
