Hey everybody…..on here to learn and get better at poker. First question….

Recently 4 tabling 1/2 nl on Bovada. Up at each table: Up Significantly at 2 of them. Getting ready to quit for the night and get 4/5 clubs and call a raise. Flop comes 4 5 8…..long story short is that it comes runner runner clubs and I make a flush after already having two pair on flop. Opponent has 7/3 of clubs for a higher flush. Within 30 seconds of that hand I pick up 8/6 clubs and call a raise. Flop comes 5 7 4 with 2 clubs. I can’t believe it. Villain c-bets and I call and turn brings another club improving my already made hand from straight to flush. He bets and I check raise and unbelievably he has K/10 of clubs for higher flush. Two hands back to back getting out flushed. Wiped away a good 2/3 of my profits……is this unbelievably unlucky or normal poker variance?

Thanks!!!

It is unlucky and also perfectly normal for poker. It also shows the dangers of playing low suited cards, because they can easily make second best hands that you can't get away from.

Why do you feel it was unlucky?

Why do you say your hand improved when you went from holding the nuts to the 8th nuts?

What range of hands did you think would call your check-raise, and what part of that range are you actually beating?
There are many spots in poker where a bet will only be called by a better hand. Did you check-raise because you thought you would get paid off by a poorer hand more often than being snapped by a better one, or did you think "ZOMG I haz a flush, must bet!" Think through every decision you make - what calls me here if I bet is a great question to ask yourself.
