Asking players left to act behind you if they have a good hand when its your turn to act. can you get any reads from doing this? I might do this 25% of the time the next time i play to see what responses i get.

In multiway action (or even in headsup action in tournament), it is against the rule for a player to give information regarding their hand strength. It is not against the rules to ask, but it is somewhat a breach of etiquette (as you are soliciting information you are not entitled to, and you are inducing them to break the rules). I can't say that I have ever seen someone penalized for doing this, because, honestly, I can't recall anyone ever asking a person who has position on them what their hand strength is.

If there is more than one player still with live cards, this will be more than frowned upon. Don't discuss what your opponents might have in multiway pots.

If someone did that to me 1 of every 4 hands i would'nt stay around very long. Not a good way to make friends IMO

Also, any hollywooding or table talk that slows the action preflop on routine decisions is going to get real old real fast. If you are making a decision on whether to fold or shove against a cold three bet for all your tournament chips, I will not mind if you take time to decide. If you are going through a routine everytime (or even 1/4 of the time) it is your turn to act, including trying to banter to get information, I am going to ask you to cut that crap out and stop slowing down the game.

I have the opposite approach.
I look for the guy talking the most crap and size him up for one of the two worst players at the table.
Quess what ? 80% of the time THAT guy is rail side within 90 mins.

Don't ask. Some people give off physical tells though, so you can tell they intend to fold or less often, are super interested and likely to raise.

The response you're going to get is being 86'ed from the room if you keep doing this. Everyone will roll their eyes the second time you do it. Either a player will complain or someone will keep asking your every time what you have. The game will slow down and the dealer will eventually ask the floor to come over and tell you to stop. If you don't after that, being asked to leave will be the last step.

Oh, and if you're thinking you'll be safe because you're playing a tournament, read the fine print.
