Explanation about All-in Equity Graphs Explanation about All-in Equity Graphs

I do not have software that gives me these graphs, but reading about them here has made me curious. I looked at a couple earlier, and it led me to a question. I did the proper thing, I think, which was to do a google search, and see if I could get an explanation.

Unfortunately, the explanation of the graphs left me with the same question, so I'll pose the question here.

From what I have read, the All-in Equity line is derived only from hands that were all-in, and I believe all-in before the river (if it includes those that were all-in on the river, those hands would all have either 0 or 100% equity, but it is possible they are included). The Total Money won line, seems to show Total Money won.

But it doesn't say Total Money Won just on those hands that were all-in. But the X axis, which shows number of hands, suggests that both lines are based on the same number of hands.

So it could mean this is how much you have won (or lost) only on the hands that were all-in pre-river. It could mean this is how much you have won (or lost) in X amount of hands, of which some of them were all-in pre-river. In that case the equity line might be based on 1000 hands played, but only using 100 hands that qualify (to make up some numbers).

Or it could mean something else completely. Can anyone help?

I’m not totally sure what your question is exactly?

The graph shows either all hands or whatever hands you have selected. You can select all hands that went all-in before the river, all hands that went all-in preflop or all hands where you 3bet preflop or whatever filter you would like to use.

The all-in EV line differs from your your actual winnings line only for hands that went all-in with you having more than 0% but less than 100% equity. No matter which street the all-in happened on. If you got it in drawing dead on the flop, your expectation was 0 and your result was 0. If you got it in with 50% equity and the hand results in an outcome of 0BB or 200BB for you even though the expectation was 100BB, the all-in line will show that while the winnings line will show the actual result.

I've only looked at a few of the graphs that have been posted by others. It sounds like you are saying that a specific graph that shows All-in Equity will be based only on those hands that were all-in. And therefore the Total money won is only for those hands.

I had read one post where someone commented on another person's win-rate based on this type of graph. But if that win rate is only based on the all-in hands it actually is not a person's win rate, it is a selective win rate. So if you tend to only get all-in as a favorite you should show a good win rate in those situations, and it says nothing about how you do in other situations. Am I understanding that correctly?

Usually, if people post graphs, they post one that includes all hands.

One line is overall winnings, one is showdown winnings, one is non-showdown winnings and then there’s also one for all-in equity. For hands that didn’t go all-in (or had an equity of 0 or 1) that line just moves with the overall winnings.
