Doing pot odds when facing a race Doing pot odds when facing a race

Hello everyone;

I am having trouble doing pot odds when facing a raise.

I know how to pot odds when there is no raise in front me but when there is a raise, I have no idea, how to calculate pot odds.

Example #1:

We are on the flop, the pot is $100 and opponent bets $75, I know that I need about 30% to continue.

I can do this no matter what the pot is and what the bet is.

Example #2I have no idea how to do this)

We are on the river. Pot is $34,000, we bet $20,000 and the opponent raises $40,000.

I have no idea how to do pot odds in this situation.

How would I do pot odds in raised situations?

Thanks.

In example 2, there is 94,000 in the pot after villain raises and you have to put in 20,000 to call. That's pot odds of 4.7:1 so you need 17.5% equity to call.

It's exactly the same. You see what the size of the pot is, and compare to the size of the bet you are facing.

If a formula will help:

P= pot before you bet
B = your bet
R = villain raise-to

Pot odds = (P + B + R)/(R - B) to 1

OP Example: P= 34,000 B=20,000 R=40,000

PO = (34+20+40)/(40 – 20) = 94/20 = 4.7 to 1

Required Equity = 1/(PO+1) = 1 / 5.7 = 17.5%

Here's a simpler formula that applies to all situations

Required equity% = (amount to call) / (pot size after you call)

Quote:
Pot is $34,000, we bet $20,000 and the opponent raises $40,000.
Amount to call = 20k
Pot after you call = 114k

Required equity = 20/114= 17%

Thank you, this is the easiest way for me.

This formula is a bit over my head for now but I will try it when I better.
