I can't really speak on how popular online is specifically, none of my mates play online. However local pub tournaments (several poker leagues) and The Star Casino is pretty popular as far as poker is concerned. There's definitely home games about also.
As far as preferences in playing time, I don't mind playing off peak (Australia's midday - 10pm or so) just because I can get so many hands on the players due to the low player pool however on peak the play seems far more spewier generally speaking.
Poker is somewhat popular in Australia, but hardly mastered.
There's plenty of people who will have a little home game amongst their family, or go to some free poker tournaments that are good for just relaxing and such. Overall though, poker in Australia isn't popular enough for most players to become rather good at.
It sucks saying it about my own country men, but Australian's mostly suck at poker, minus a small percentage.
Ok. Is there any laws that might prevent playing? Or is it just not popular enough? Currently Australians seem to make really small % of the population playing zoom atm. There should be some other Asian fish to make playing profitable.
Played some 2NL zoom for fun this morning on the phone so no HUD.
A common theme is short fish calling 3bets with trash then raise shoving with a pair e.g. J3o and they'll shove over your cbet with a J on the board.
Nice when you have TPTK...
Although T8s which opened UTG and called my KK 3b and rivered a straight wasn't fun.
Anyway, to 5NL.
Standard open here, standard cbet, picked up equity on turn so barrelled again.
Almost checked river but didn't want to face a calling decision. Likely a chop given the paired board I thought and didn't think worse would call
Interesting spot here. I think I fold a lot in these spots, isn't it Baluga to fold here?
However, didn't believe his line although some tards play value hands in a ******ed way and he does have those 18/7 stats who are fond of checking big hands down then bombing the river.
Deposited $50 on the 12th after a break because I wanted to unlock the $50 outstanding bonus that was 62% done or something. Just hit the $250 mark (incl. bonuses) which was my goal, 5 bi shot at 10NL now. As long as I don't over adjust I'm sure I'll do fine. Any advice from those that have moved up though?
Preflop: Hero is CO with A A
UTG calls $0.10, MP raises to $0.45, Hero raises to $1.20, 3 folds, UTG calls $1.10, MP raises to $12.15, Hero calls $10.95, UTG calls $8.80 and is all-in
Flop: ($34.45) 7 8 9 (3 players, 1 is all-in) Turn: ($34.45) 4 (3 players, 1 is all-in) River: ($34.45) 9 (3 players, 1 is all-in)
Results: $34.45 pot ($1.50 rake)
Final Board: 7 8 9 4 9
UTG showed K 2 and lost (-$10 net)
MP showed K K and lost (-$12.15 net)
Hero showed A A and won $32.95 ($20.80 net)
There's plenty of lolbad regulars too. People will still call your 4bets with AQ, and some people will call your 4bets with hands like AK/JJ.
The only time I think you need to make adjustments is for the deep tables. There are some good (in relation to the general skill level) regulars at the deep tables.
But for the most part, just find a strategy that will have you making a few bb in between the big hands where you can go to value town, and you'll do just fine.

No harm in integrating a couple of 10nl tables whilst you still play 5nl too. Works well for me as keeps me playing my normal game for longer
Other than that, just play solid and wait for bad players to spew to you when you have it.
AK, I love you, but you're brining me down. Just felt this board was so wet that I felt TPTK was good to call and GII on blank turn cards. Saying that since villain has Regish stats are we looking at sets/two pair here most of the time?
Firstly coz he rivered me , secondly coz he cracked my Aces , but mainly as he used his entire timebank on the river to just call. Gotta love dem fishies!
Yeah. Am rolled but need to get hands in before the year end, so it's less stressful doing that on 4 tables of 10nl Zoom than 2 of 25nl Zoom, even tho I'd earn more VPPs at the higher level. Not confident enough to 4 table at 25nl even tho it'd save me a lot of time, no point losing money to make $50.
Am also giving myself more padding for the next proper shot take so it's all good
