Hi
I m now able to very comfortably 12-table 10nl 6 max but my laptop screen is too small.
I need a screen suitable for up to 24 tables at the same time.
I d like to connect my laptop, a dell inspiron 1764 to this larger screen.
Can this be done, and what kind of screen would you recommend (brand etc...) for this considering that I d need to have the lobby visible at all time for table selection?
Maybe I could have the lobby on my laptop screen and the 12-24 tables on the extra screen? Is this possible?
Thanks

Buy a flat screen Tv like 30+ inches and hook your laptop up to it through HDMI cables if your laptop has HDMI. Thats what i did and it works great!

I think you can do a bit better than a 720 or 1080 TV resolution, and if not it would make more sense to just buy a monitor with comparable of better resolution anyway.

What I don't know is what resolution your laptop's integrated GMA HD graphics can actually push for light use, I tried finding some hard info but there is conflicting data. Intel's spec sheets for your specific graphics chipset would be the way to go. And use the HDMI not VGA of course.

I imagine you could run maybe even a 30" well enough for poker, but I don't think I'd try that. A single HDMI monitor below that res should be ok given that it's a recent Intel integrated, but you'll want a second opinion for sure.

yeah i use a 1080 42in LCD tv for my setup and i think it works amazing =D and if your just playing poker the resolution isnt that big of a deal and 1080 is plenty. buying a tv is the way to go cause it functions as both a "TV" and a monitor.

OP, this is very dependent on the graphics hardware that is in your laptop.
(1) Is there a video out on your laptop (there probably is), either normal SVGA or (more advanced) HDMI? Check out the various connections on your laptop to see if you can plug it on to a TV.
(2) When you manage to get (1) done, right-click on your desktop and go to "Properties". Under "Settings" you will find what options you have to set screen resolutions and divide over several screens.

(NOTE: this is on Windows XP, I thinks it's not very different in Vista or Win7)

I think if you are playing up to 24 tables, you might want to think about stacking or cascading. Tiling 24 will be a nightmare.

If you tile, your eyes have to move about more, your mouse will have to move about more and you aren't going to make many reads with so many tables.

Don't get a TV to use as a monitor, only fish do that because they don't know any better! The resolution is pretty poor for multi-tabling. Get a 28" computer monitor and you will be much happier. Set the desktop to extend onto the external monitor and you got yourself 2 usable screens. Why spend $500-$800 on a TV when you can buy a computer monitor with better resolution for less.

I'll second this. I used to 16-table on 2 monitors, and it's quite a lot of eye movement (and if I didn't have my mouse sensitivity set to just require a twitch of fingers to move across 2 monitors, I'd probably have carpal tunnel syndrome).

if you have the money get http://www.anandtech.com/show/3754/a...r30w-review.42 inch tv is to big for being in front of your face.I've been a video phile before i even got into poker and this monitor is just amazing for the colors it reproduces.you'd be able to do 24 tables without any overlap

Dependent on your financial situation, I would recommend two 24 inch monitors with 1920x1200 resolution. 2 monitors significantly increases visibility of the tables, and also it costs less than one 30 inch monitor with a good resolution. So if you feel comfortable with tiling your tables more, then choosing 2 monitors is better than getting 1 big screen TV with poor resolution, since your tables are going to be small.

Not a good idea when using a laptop.
