I am currently reading Matt Flynn's "Professional NLHE" book and I'm confused about something. Here is an exerpt...

"...your chance of hitting one of those outs is 28% or about 2.6 to 1. So if you're getting 3 to 1 in pot odds then it's worth the call."

How do you get 2.6 to 1 based on a 28% chance of hitting your card? I always thought you divided 100/28 which is more like odds of 3.6 to 1. Which in the above scenario would mean it's not worth the call.

You are mixing up probability with odds. The probability is 28% -the odds are the probability of something happening divided by the probability of it not happening.

So the odds here are .28 / (1-.28) = .28 / .72 or approx 1 to 2.6.

28% is most easily described as having 28 out of the total 100. 100 - 28 = 72. Since you're looking for your odds, and not the odds of your opponents, your ratio is 72-28

72 divided by 28 = 2.57142857 or approx 2.6 to 1
