Hey everyone,
I working on keeping track of how often a player plays a hand per orbit and was wondering how to calculate the percentage. For example: Player A is pretty tight and only plays 20% of his hands. How do you calculate that to get the percent? Thank you everyone in advance for your help.

If he was dealt 40 hands, and decided to play 15 of them,

that's 15/40 as a fraction.

Multiply by 100 to turn the fraction into a percentage.

15/40 x 100%
= 37.5%

Does that answer your question?

Ok, so i would have to know how many hands are played from the time i sit down right? What if i figured out that player A plays 2 hands per orbit, is there a way to get a percent based on that information?

At a 6 handed table, 2 hands per orbit is 2 out of 6

2/6 x 100% = 33.3%

At a Full Ring table (10 seats) 2 hands per orbit is 2 out of 10

2/10 x 100% = 20%

Things might get a bit more complicated if there's a lot of limping going on, because then he can check the big blind and see a flop for free.

The usual stat for telling us how loose or tight a guy is playing would by VP$IP (voluntarily put $ into pot) which only counts hands where someone puts money in the middle, over and above any blind money they're forced to pay (so hands where they're in the big blind and get to see the flop without having to put any more money in, aren't included in that stat.)

Of course, a player probably plays tighter when in early position. Still, two hands per orbit is useful information.

Also, you can't count the number of hands per orbit a person plays in a full ring. In a live game, if a person is quite loose, you'll notice. Otherwise, pay attention to the cards shown down.

In an online game, you get the information from your HUD, as DiamondDog has mentioned.
