Building a bank roll on MTTs or STTs for cash games. Building a bank roll on MTTs or STTs for cash games.

I have recently been learning about 6-max cash games, playing at 2NL to 10NL.

I was wondering how fishy the MTTs and STTs are compared to the micro tables.

Do you think it would be faster or more profitable to try to build a bankroll off of micro MTTs and STTs before transitioning back to cash games?

I have always read about players who have done this, and I figured it might be because it is faster to build a bankroll at the SnGs, because there are more fish there.

What do you guys think?

It's possible to build a bankroll faster by playing SNGs if you can multi-table a lot of them. There are some MTT grinders out there but you also have to be able to multi table a crap load of them and there's a lot more variance so I don't recommend them.

I think most people just prefer one to the other. I like playing cash a lot more personally and would rather play tourneys for fun. I think to start out it makes sense to just stick to one since they seem to be completely different games.

It's definitely possible to make much more money at lower stakes playing STT's and MTT's than 2nl-10nl. That being said you'll probably find that it's a bad idea because STT's and MTT's require a different skillset than cash.

In other words to beat 25nl it's strongly recommended that you beat 2nl, 5nl, and 10nl for a reasonable sample. The same can be said for 50nl and 100nl. Yes you could sit directly down at 100NL and proceed to grind- but unless you're very gifted you'll probably get waxed for quite a bit of your MTT created BR.
